As a second-year FCS teacher, I was so excited to get into e-textiles with my eighth graders - but we also have to cover money management, introduction to culinary, and get the students SafeSitter certified (all in nine weeks)! They kept reminding me that we had this project to work on, and they were so motivated to get to it that they breezed through the other units so that they could spend time creating their felted stuffies!\r\n\r\nWe worked through an introduction to hand sewing as a part of our mental health unit. They learned that sitting and focusing on creating with their hands is a great way to decompress and destress. We created little books that show 15 different embroidery stitches. We then made the fidget mazes, felt squares that have a marble in them. The students created a path for the marbles to move through - this was included in the materials you purchased for our room.\r\n\r\nFinally, we used the e-textiles kits you purchased for us and finished the unit by creating an e-textile. The students got to pick from more than 40 different felted designs, with the caveat that they had to make sure that some part of it lit up. We practiced making a circuit, and the students had to figure out how to make their e-textile with the light on the inside and the battery on the outside - all while ensuring that the conductive thread didn't cross and short out the connection. The students took this project further than I could have imagined. They were so focused. Most days, they had their projects out and were working on them before the bell even rang for class to start!","fullyFundedDate":1733344131901,"projectUrl":"project/technology-and-textiles-working-together/8777906/","projectTitle":"Technology and Textiles Working Together!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Puckett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9747855"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78570","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":57,"numTeachers":9,"percentFrplEligible":40,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":94,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"6.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":78570,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sheridan High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sheridan High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/sheridan-school-district-5/sheridan-high-school/78570"}
