Your generosity provided our students with adaptive tools that are helping them participate in classroom activities with greater independence, confidence, and success.\r\n\r\nOur new different-sized markers, egg-shaped crayons, loop scissors, and thick dotters have quickly become some of our favorite classroom tools. Students have enjoyed exploring the different materials and discovering which tools work best for their hands and individual needs. The larger markers and egg-shaped crayons are easier for little hands to grasp, while the loop scissors and thick dotters give students additional support as they work on developing their fine-motor skills.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding moments has been watching students who may have struggled to hold traditional classroom supplies now proudly complete an art activity on their own. Instead of focusing on what is difficult, we can provide the right tool and allow each child to experience the feeling of, \"I can do it!\" Those moments of independence and success are incredibly meaningful in a special education preschool classroom.\r\n\r\nOur students were excited to see the new materials and immediately wanted to touch, explore, and try them. Their curiosity turned into opportunities to practice grasping, cutting, coloring, drawing, and making purposeful marks—all important skills for growing preschool learners.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, we will keep incorporating these adaptive tools into our daily activities, including art, pre-writing, fine-motor centers, and classroom projects. Our next steps are to continue building hand strength, coordination, and independence while giving every student opportunities to participate alongside their peers.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create a classroom where every child has the tools they need to participate, learn, create, and succeed. With these new resources, our classroom became a hands-on learning lab where students could plant, observe, care for, and celebrate the growth of living things.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite projects was growing flowers for students to take home and plant for the summer. The students were so proud to watch their flowers grow and then bring them home to continue caring for them. We also planted wheat grass, which gave students the opportunity to watch it grow, cut it, and then discover that it could grow again! This was such a wonderful way for students to experience the life cycle of plants firsthand.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were immediately excited to explore the seeds and dirt. Their curiosity led to some wonderful conversations and questions. During snack one day, a student wondered if we could grow an apple tree from the seeds inside an apple we were eating. Of course, we had to try! The class planted the apple seed and was able to watch it grow, turning a simple snack into an exciting science investigation.\r\n\r\nThe learning will continue this fall! We are creating a dedicated grow center in our classroom where students will use grow lights and our hydroponic unit to explore how plants grow in different environments. We are excited to give our students even more opportunities to ask questions, make predictions, observe changes, and learn through hands-on experiences.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create a classroom where curiosity can grow right alongside our plants! Lite Brites were a big part of childhood when I was growing up. They are also a fun tool to practice essential skills in kindergarten. Lite Brites help build fine motor skills, visual planning, color identification, and cooperation. They are also just fun!\r\n\r\nThe kids loved turning off the lights and making new creations. They also loved copying each other's creations, which is a skill in it's own right. The students are able to work in pairs when they use our light tables. They are able to build words with the glowing letters. They can build addition and subtraction number sentences with the numbers. The students can also build shape patterns with the shapes in both 2D and 3D.\r\n\r\nThe light tables are not just for academics. They are also fun when we are being creative. When I showed them how they could be a tool for segmenting and blending words, they were very excited to try it. The kids can chew on them when they feel nervous, and then they don't chew on their clothing.
