We have been able to use the materials for two units this fall and they will be used in the spring as well. \r\n\r\nThe hydraulics and pneumatics kits were useful in illustrating concepts of pressure and mechanical advantage for the students when we were investigating the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. The chemical equation balancing kits were so helpful for students to visualize and model how chemical reactions involve the breaking and forming of bonds and rearrangement of atoms, while obeying the Law of Conservation of Mass. The lens kit will be used in the spring semester when we explore optics and the behavior of light.\r\n\r\nStudents have enjoyed the hands-on learning that comes with these materials. It has certainly helped them to not only learn about the concepts, but experience a simulation in real life.","fullyFundedDate":1726538155046,"projectUrl":"project/data-based-force-motion-and-optics-ins/8789878/","projectTitle":"Data-based Force, Motion, and Optics Instruction","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wintersteen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9752259"},{"teacherId":9765941,"projectId":8804115,"letterContent":"As you may have observed, the number of students with actual books in their hands has diminished staggeringly quickly in the past decade. While it was once common for most students to have a novel in their backpack to use when they had quiet downtime, I would challenge you to find one or two such students today. Your support in helping purchase a classroom set of books - The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell - for my sociology classes hopefully helps change that disturbing trend. Gladwell's anecdotes and research are super engaging for my students and we've had numerous reading/discussion sessions in soc this semester and the students (10th-12th graders) seem to enjoy it quite a bit. The discussions we have had are deep and students see the connection between Gladwell's prose and their daily lives, the relevance building even more engagement. Without your support, it would have been unlikely that I'd be able to do this book study this year and your funding it makes a difference for the sixty students who'll do (or have been doing) a guided reading of The Tipping Point.","fullyFundedDate":1727027976381,"projectUrl":"project/sociology-book-study-gladwells-tippin/8804115/","projectTitle":"Sociology Book Study - Gladwell's Tipping Point","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kimzey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9765941"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78663","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":555,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":86,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":45.0,"schoolId":78663,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hamilton High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hamilton High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/hamilton-school-district-3/hamilton-high-school/78663"}
