The markers, pens, colored pencils, cardstock, tape, and other materials have already been put to good use. My students were genuinely excited when they saw all of the new supplies. There is something special about opening a cabinet and finding fresh markers that work, plenty of colored pencils to choose from, and the materials needed to complete a project without having to hunt around the room or worry about bringing supplies from home.\r\n\r\nThese resources are being used across so many parts of our English classroom. Recently, students used the materials to create visual projects that required them to organize information, select important details from their reading, and communicate their understanding creatively. Having cardstock, colored pencils, markers, and reliable pens allowed students to focus on the learning rather than on what supplies were available. These materials also support our everyday work—annotating texts, creating study tools, completing group activities, and displaying student work around our classroom.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these supplies as students move into our upcoming literature units. They will be reading, analyzing characters and themes, gathering evidence from texts, and turning what they learn into projects and written responses. Your donation may look like markers, tape, paper, and pens, but in our classroom, those supplies become opportunities for students to think, create, collaborate, and take pride in their work. These new choices help keep students interested and make it easier to find their next great read.\r\n\r\nEvery day, we set aside 15 minutes to read, and we share favorite moments from our books. These conversations give students opportunities to practice summarizing, explaining their thinking, and supporting their ideas with details from the text. The variety of genres also opens doors to meaningful lessons: survival and adventure stories invite us to examine how characters respond to challenges, suspense encourages predictions and inferences, and historical fiction helps us consider how time and place shape people's lives. Stories about relationships offer opportunities to explore character motivation, empathy, and different perspectives.\r\n\r\nFor students who have a harder time finding a book that interests them, this variety is especially valuable. They have more ways to connect reading with their own interests and discover what they enjoy. As we continue reading, my goal is for students to build stamina, try unfamiliar genres, and share recommendations with classmates. Choosing a book now means exploring an organized collection instead of struggling with broken shelves or searching for books that have fallen out of reach. Such a practical change has made a meaningful difference in how students use our classroom library.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our independent reading, these shelves will help students discover new authors, explore different genres, and make thoughtful reading choices. Without your support, I would not be able to provide this variety of activities and learning experiences for my students. \r\nThe Owl Pellet lab is super popular among my 7th graders and such and great way for them to explore the idea of how an owls digestive system works, as well as ecological good webs. In a strawberry DNA extraction lab, they learn how each step in the process serves a purpose of breaking down cell walls and isolating DNA. \r\n6th graders explore density in a number of labs from salt water and hot and cold variations. They also model the rock cycle using starburst candies. This is generally their favorite lab of the year. I love it because it really puts the process in their hands!\r\nNone of this would be possible without your support. In just our second year, student interest has continued to grow, and they are planning ways to make this year even better than last. We could not do it without your support.\r\nOur biggest projects typically occur closer to spring; however, both 6th and 7th-grade students participated in a smaller planting project just before Thanksgiving break. They learned about propagation, growing plants from cuttings. The idea was actually a plant knowledgeable 6th graders' idea. I only did it with the 7th grader last year in their lesson on asexual reproduction. It was great that both of them got to participate in the project.\r\nThe plan is to nurture and care for our starts over the next couple of months and hold a houseplant sale in January. This will compound our revenue for the year, as we will be holding two plant sales instead of one. Again, we could not have done it without you. After a lesson on counting back change, they now feel very professional using a real cash register.\r\n\r\nWe even designated an accountant who inputs data, makes deposits, and shares weekly updates. The students have shown impressive responsibility, showing up for their scheduled shifts on time or finding someone to cover when they can't make it.\r\n\r\nOne of their favorite additions has been the button maker! They've created buttons that promote the positive character traits we're focusing on. They assembled the machine themselves and learned how it works. Next, we'll be working with the press, where they'll get to see their creative ideas come to life in something useful and functional.\r\n\r\nTheir enthusiasm and pride in what they've built is truly inspiring. The new atlases have many types of thematic maps. We can see a country/continent's population density, physical features, climate, vegetation, and political regions.\r\n\r\nI am so happy to have my student's be able to use up-to-date resources.
