I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your generous donation of the Uglies books for my classroom. Your contribution has made a significant impact on my students, who have shown great enthusiasm and engagement with the material. \r\n\r\nBooks like Uglies not only enhance their reading skills but also foster important discussions around themes of identity and societal norms. It is heartwarming to witness their excitement while exploring the stories and characters you have made accessible to them. \r\n\r\nThank you once again for your thoughtful generosity. Your support is invaluable to our learning community, and I appreciate the time and effort you took to provide these resources.","fullyFundedDate":1724373665541,"projectUrl":"project/new-literature-for-our-reading-class/8682563/","projectTitle":"New Literature for our Reading Class!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. MORRISON","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9693232"},{"teacherId":9748246,"projectId":8778750,"letterContent":"With your contribution, my reading class has been able to engage with books that they otherwise would not have had the opportunity to. Using these materials in my classroom has encouraged reading comprehension, vocabulary production, and social emotional learning. My students have been able to empathize with the characters and related to some of their stories. \r\nIn \"I Survived: The Joplin Tornado,\" My students learned how devastating severe weather can be and how it can have a lasting impact on the communities it destroys. I was able to relate this historical tornado to current day happenings as Hurricane Helene was impacting North Carolina at the same time we were reading the book. I was also able to incorporate a social emotional aspect into my lesson in the discussion about storms and how they are as much internal as they are atmospheric weather patterns. My students were able to document or draw the \"tornado within\" themselves which encouraged them to organize emotions into categories to hold on or toss out.\r\nIn the \"Rocket Boys\" my students have taken a small step back in time to the mining towns of West Virginia. We are currently on chapter 20 of the book with 6 more chapters to go. Following Homer Hickam's story of wanting more than to be a miner and the struggles that ensued in the process of rocket building shows my students, who are also from a poorer community, that they are capable of anything. My student's are able to relate to Homer's family and personal issues due to some of their own struggles. This allows them to see that they are capable of overcoming hardships.\r\nI appreciate your generosity and look forward to continuing to watch my students grow from the stories in these books.","fullyFundedDate":1726424292957,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-reading/8778750/","projectTitle":"Let's Get Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rasely","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9748246"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78643","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":97,"numTeachers":7,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":86,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":null,"schoolId":78643,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about E.F.
