We have used them to work on problem-solving, communication, and creativity. \r\n\r\nThe Candy Vending Machine took patience and focus to get the parts in the right spot. They also had to problem-solve if something didn't look like the picture. They also enjoyed the Fun and Educational Building Blocks. Here they were able to show me their creativity and all of their creations. \r\n\r\nI am excited to use the circuit boards and solar robots during our energy unit this spring. \r\nIt will give my students a hands-on opportunity to observe the transfer of energy.","fullyFundedDate":1726588916340,"projectUrl":"project/stem-activities-for-our-class/8791312/","projectTitle":"STEM Activities for Our Class","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Walter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9714924"},{"teacherId":9692941,"projectId":8681887,"letterContent":"My class was champing at the bit even before they heard the project was funded and on its way, they were so excited! Their imaginations were on fire thinking of all the projects they could do with these robots. Questions such as, \"Can they fall from a height?\" turned into, \"Can they fall from a height into water?\" turned into, \"Will they still roll under water?\" turned into, \"If they roll under water, we have to build a ramp exiting the water, and we have to make an entire obstacle course!\" I had very few answers to these questions, but we were all excited to find out the answers.\r\n\r\nWhen they arrived, the class quickly came up with names for the robots, and they were instant fixtures in the classroom. I had only a little bit of time to learn how to use them, so I figured out the absolute basics of how to turn them on. The rest was in the students' hands. In their spare time, they learned how to program the robots so a robot would run on its course, careening around its set path at top speed. The students answered their questions themselves, and they're on to new challenges and new questions. All of this is helping their programming ability, and confidence to try new things.\r\n\r\nAll thanks to you, for funding this project. Your generosity has brought an incredible array of resources to our students, and I'm excited to share how they've been impacting our school.\r\n\r\nHow We're Using the New Resources:\r\nThe books and hands-on materials you provided have become student favorites, enriching learning and play. The Who Is/Who Was series and I Survived books have sparked engaging discussions and students have asked if I have any more for them to read. The nonfiction books about September 11th encouraged meaningful conversations about resilience and historical events, helping students connect with the past on a deeper level.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic building tiles and marble run sets have been fantastic for fostering creativity and teamwork during STEM activities. Students have been using these to design intricate structures and solve engineering challenges, connecting hands-on learning to principles of physics and design. The Pigeon series books have also been a big hit during storytime, encouraging even our reluctant readers to dive into fun and engaging stories.\r\n\r\nStudent Reactions:\r\nThe excitement when these materials first arrived was unforgettable! Students crowded around to explore the books, and the marble run was an instant favorite. One student shared, \"I can't believe we get to build and learn with these!\" \r\n\r\nWhat's Next for Our Students:\r\nLooking ahead, we're using nonfiction books to support research for upcoming projects. Meanwhile, the STEM materials will be incorporated into a new engineering challenge where students build marble mazes and test their designs for speed and efficiency. The Pigeon series inspires a love for reading using Mo Willems' beloved character to pull them into each story. \r\n\r\nYour support has brought so much joy and learning into our library. These resources are sparking curiosity, collaboration, and a love for reading and exploration in our students.
