At a glance, the project you funded would not appear to be transformative. However, the materials we received from your donation did in fact transform our classroom! This was my first year teaching Junior High ELA. Not only was I teaching an age group and subject area that was new to me, I was also starting my new position 5 weeks into the school year. I typically spend a great deal of time before the school year creating a warm and inviting educational environment. I also ensure that I have a proper routine and organization system that works for both me and my students. This year I was not able to establish any of this before I began teaching and after one day in my new classroom, I knew some things needed to change. You made that happen. The project you funded helped create the best educational environment for both me and my students. Thank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1732636760816,"projectUrl":"project/set-the-mood-for-ela/8828793/","projectTitle":"Set the Mood for ELA","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bumgarner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9780007"},{"teacherId":9734598,"projectId":8746681,"letterContent":"We would like to thank you all very sincerely for the donations to our project for STEM resources. We are a very rural Hutterite colony school and have very few resources beyond text books, worksheets, and video clips from youtube. For our students to have the opportunity to work on projects with actual equipment is a rare treat. Students are divided into 2 classrooms, K thru 4 and 5 thru 8 grades. The resources that you donated for are going to be allocated to the older students. As these students live a rural, agricultural life, it is very important for them to be practical and resourceful, while also having an understanding of basic scientific principles. They thrive on any practical task and have shown great enthusiasm for the resources for Electricity and Magnetism kits. Now they can use the equipment to actually make circuits and switches and investigate how to make things work. I imagine it will make life easier for them when they finally take their place in contributing to colony life and learn their trades.\r\n\r\nAs well as showing enthusiasm for working with real resources, these students have shown genuine appreciation, so please know that your contributions have been gratefully received. Opening the boxes up was like Christmas come early and I could sense the students waiting to pounce on the resources, which they did, but with care and excitement. Now that we have investigated the equipment, we aim to apply our knowledge to problem solving activities and projects.","fullyFundedDate":1735671925731,"projectUrl":"project/stem-supplies/8746681/","projectTitle":"STEM Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Manley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9734598"},{"teacherId":9737052,"projectId":8750454,"letterContent":"The Literature-Rich Westward Expansion project has been an amazing experience for my classroom. It is a year-long project, so we are only partway through. Already we have received so many wonderful and memorable learning moments from these books and activities.\r\nFirst, we explored the Little House books with an introduction to help the students understand the Ingalls family and their travels from the Big Woods of Wisconsin to the western prairies. Because this is a classroom with first, second, third, and fourth grades, I have used the picture books for the younger students with the novels for the older ones. The second graders were listening when the third and fourth graders were reading. It encouraged them to ask if they could be part of the novel reading. They proved that they could read fluently and keep up with some of the earlier novels, which encouraged them to push themselves to read more challenging material. \r\nWhile reading these novels we are coloring the large map to track the states where they lived and the westward movement of pioneers. We will continue this and dive deeper into the Oregon trail and the experiences of those who traveled in pursuit of land under the Homestead Act. Our state and capital study merges well with this.\r\nThe stem activity kits might seem unrelated, but the 1800s were a time of technological change and discovery. We invited the older classroom with an additional 12 students to help us assemble the kits. This truly has been a highlight of our year, since we are trying to include more STEAM activities and the students are so very engaged in this. \r\nThe Little House books are wonderful for Hutterite children because they are so relatable. These children work hard and live an agrarian lifestyle. Sometimes they feel isolated from others like the pioneers were isolated from each other. The prairie life here is similar, down to the winter blizzards. The ability of my students to understand their experiences has expanded their writing opportunities, allowing them to write with greater description and empathy for the brave pioneers.\r\nThank you so much for allowing my class to participate in such an engaging and educational project. The ability to incorporate subject areas of language arts, social studies, science, art, music, and even PE games from old times creates a wonderfully broad educational unit. The connections my students are making are giving them warm and enriching memories of their study of the westward expansion.","fullyFundedDate":1726238947664,"projectUrl":"project/literature-rich-westward-expansion-and-i/8750454/","projectTitle":"Literature-Rich Westward Expansion and Immigration Study","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beebe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9737052_orig.jpg?crop=807,807,x51,y157&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737943068721","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9737052"},{"teacherId":9734598,"projectId":8684231,"letterContent":"I'm writing to explain the impact of the electricity circuit building set. It has been very well received and the students were very excited. They had already learned from books and videos about electricity and circuits, but learning through discovery makes the learning experience so much more vivid. The were able to apply the vocabulary learned, like circuit, switch etc to real situations. They were able to build circuits to make the motors spin, the lights come on, the buzzer to sound and insert a switch. \r\nIt was very rewarding to see my students respond so positively to the resources. Now that I know they can use them responsibly, I shall use it as an activity for early finishers as well. \r\nTo sum up, we're sending a huge thankyou for funding this project.","fullyFundedDate":1726676886622,"projectUrl":"project/practice-and-hands-on-experience/8684231/","projectTitle":"Practice and Hands on Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Manley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9734598"},{"teacherId":4101283,"projectId":8777934,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your recent donation of books, letter tiles, and card stock paper. I work with small groups of students in grades K-5, who struggle with reading. The books you purchased have given them options to choose from and new books to enjoy. The boys are enjoying the Henry and Mudge series. A third grade girls is very excited to be the first to read the new book Orris and Timble and share it with the rest of us. Getting my students excited about reading can sometimes be challenging, but good books make it a little easier. Most all of them are shorter chapter books as well, which make them more willing to try a chapter book. \r\nThe letter tiles, I use with students in kindergarten and first. We use them to learn letter sounds, build words, and substitute sounds to create new words. The students enjoy manipulating the sounds on the magnet boards instead of always writing them. \r\nFinally the cardstock has been very handy to use for our power words. It is much more durable than copy paper. I am able to copy their power words on the cardstock and send them home with them to practice.","fullyFundedDate":1726424051469,"projectUrl":"project/all-adventures-begin-with-a-good-book/8777934/","projectTitle":"All Adventures Begin With a Good Book!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chartier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4101283"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78343","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":124,"numTeachers":10,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":78343,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Centerville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Centerville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/centerville-public-sd-5-5c/centerville-elementary-school/78343"}
