Students who once hesitated to pick up a book now dive into stories eagerly, flipping through pages with genuine excitement. The combination of visuals and text has helped many of my readers—especially those with learning differences—connect with complex stories in a way that feels approachable and empowering. They're not just reading words; they're seeing tone, emotion, and action come alive on the page, which builds both comprehension and confidence.\r\n\r\nThese books have also opened new doors for critical thinking and literary discussion. Students are comparing themes between the graphic novel versions of classics and the original texts, identifying symbolism in illustrations, and analyzing how visual storytelling shapes meaning. It's been incredible to watch them make connections that go beyond surface-level understanding. For many, this is the first time they've felt like they truly \"get\" the deeper messages in literature.\r\n\r\nOne of my students who previously struggled to finish any independent reading book now proudly finishes a new graphic novel every week—and shares recommendations with classmates. Our classroom has become a small community of readers trading stories, discussing favorite panels, and seeing themselves reflected in characters. Thanks to your support, reading has become accessible, inclusive, and joyful again. You've helped turn reluctant readers into lifelong ones, and I couldn't be more grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1757697515645,"projectUrl":"project/classic-stories-new-eyes-graphic-novel/9359397/","projectTitle":"Classic Stories, New Eyes: Graphic Novels for Diverse Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Longworth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8028433_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753135090288","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8028433"},{"teacherId":8028433,"projectId":9503447,"letterContent":"Since our project was funded, the changes in our classroom have been immediate and inspiring. The walking tread pad has become one of the most talked-about additions—students are eager to use it during independent reading or writing time. For many of them, light movement has made it easier to focus and channel their energy productively. It's amazing to see students who once struggled to sit still now reading entire chapters or finishing assignments while walking. This small piece of technology has brought a calm, steady rhythm to our classroom and given students a sense of ownership over how they learn best.\r\n\r\nThe new bookshelf has transformed the way we access and value our reading materials. Instead of books stacked in random bins or tucked away, they're now displayed neatly and invitingly, making it easier for students to grab something that interests them. I've noticed more students picking up books during downtime, and our class library finally feels like a true reading corner rather than just a collection of titles.\r\n\r\nEven the smaller supplies—Lysol wipes, pens, Expo markers, and the pencil dispenser—have made a noticeable difference in how smoothly our days run. Students appreciate having what they need within reach, and our space feels more organized, clean, and welcoming. These changes have created an environment where students feel comfortable, cared for, and ready to learn. They immediately tested out the rolling chairs, swivel stools, and floor desks, and it was clear how quickly these new choices made the classroom feel more inviting and comfortable.\r\n\r\nWe recently used the new seating during a collaborative writing workshop. Students chose the spaces that helped them focus—some gathered at floor desks for brainstorming, others rolled their chairs together for peer editing, and a few worked independently on swivel stools. The ability to move easily and choose their own workspace made the activity flow more smoothly, and I noticed a big increase in engagement and participation.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue to use these seating options during our upcoming reading circles and group projects. The flexibility allows them to transition quickly between independent work and collaboration, fostering both responsibility and independence. These resources are already transforming the classroom into a more dynamic, student-centered space, and I know they will continue to support creativity, focus, and ownership of learning throughout the year.","fullyFundedDate":1746785597134,"projectUrl":"project/seating-that-moves-with-us-a-classroom/9291707/","projectTitle":"Seating That Moves With Us: a Classroom Built for Flexibility","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Longworth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8028433_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753135090288","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8028433"},{"teacherId":8028433,"projectId":9291380,"letterContent":"When our new resources arrived, my students were immediately curious and excited. The height-adjustable table has quickly become a favorite spot in the classroom, giving us flexibility for group projects and one-on-one support. We recently used it during a collaborative reading activity where students worked together to annotate a passage with Sharpies and highlighters. The mobility and space made it easy for them to share ideas and stay engaged.\r\n\r\nThe classroom clock and window shade have also made a noticeable impact. Students now check the clock regularly to manage their own time during assignments, and the shade provides a greater sense of safety and comfort in the room. The folder hanger has helped us stay more organized—students know exactly where to find and turn in their work, which has reduced clutter and kept our lessons moving smoothly.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students will continue using the new supplies during our upcoming writing unit. They'll highlight key information during research, use the table for peer review sessions, and rely on our new organization system to keep drafts and feedback in order. These resources have already made our classroom safer, more functional, and more student-centered, and they will continue to support meaningful learning experiences all year long.","fullyFundedDate":1746785394958,"projectUrl":"project/from-clutter-to-clarity-creating-a-safe/9291380/","projectTitle":"From Clutter to Clarity: Creating a Safer, Smarter Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Longworth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8028433_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753135090288","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8028433"},{"teacherId":8028433,"projectId":9207220,"letterContent":"When our new supplies arrived, my students were so excited to see everything unpacked!
