My students and I were overjoyed and excited when we discovered our project had been funded. They used the microphones and collapsible sound recording studios/cubes to create their original podcasts about social change. The podcasts had to educate or advocate for an issue they felt passionate about to our community and the broader world. The bags were instrumental in making the whole process of \"dispatching\" students to record all over the school (to find quiet places like our library, open classrooms not being used for an hour, etc.) as smooth as it could be. Many students enjoyed the \"take and go\" bags that included a sound recording cube and a microphone. They could quickly set up in a space and immediately start recording. The students enjoyed learning about and using technology that had real-life applications. Many students are planning on continuing their podcasts in the future. Students gained applicable skills that could be used to communicate effectively with their peers, school, community, and world. \r\n\r\nIn an ever-changing world, students need to be adaptable and knowledgeable about different types of technology. The equipment from this grant allowed students to gain that knowledge. As a Title I school, we don't always have access to technology of this caliber. My students were humbled and honored by your generosity. The gift of new technology made them feel valued. In the reflections from my students, it was said over and over again that the new microphones were their favorite part of the project. Our previous level of technology was very rudimentary and left much to be desired. The sound quality of the microphones allowed their podcasts to sound more professional. Students who are normally shy or struggle to share their ideas with others were able to express themselves through their podcasts. This grant made this possible. \r\nI will leave you with a quick story about a student who blossomed through her podcast. She struggles with many things outside of school and chose the topic of foster care. This particular student knows first-hand the ins and outs of the foster care system. She reflected that she felt like she could finally explain her point of view and countless other children who have struggled in foster care. I watched as a timid, nervous student who didn't think anyone would listen to her transformed into a confident, proud young person. When she bravely shared a few of her episodes with her class and other peers, she was initially unsure how they would receive them. I cannot tell you how many of her peers thanked her for educating them, commented how inspiring her podcast was, and how much they admired her. She walks just a little bit prouder these days and has built upon the connections her podcast opened the doors to with her peers. \r\nOnce again, I cannot thank you enough for providing my students and me with this grant. It opened up so many opportunities for my students to gain knowledge, confidence, and experience they would not have otherwise.","fullyFundedDate":1734373456432,"projectUrl":"project/shiver-me-podcasts-pirates-bringing-tal/8818763/","projectTitle":"Shiver Me Podcasts: Pirates Bringing Tales to the Airwaves","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bryant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1570906_orig.jpg?crop=453,453,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727201488427","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1570906"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_76927","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":374,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":58.8,"schoolId":76927,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pipkin Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pipkin Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/springfield-school-district-r12/pipkin-middle-school/76927"}
