The students who stay after school for robot club were very excited to be receiving two additional robots! As soon as we received the kits, the students got right to work putting the robots together. Since then, they have been coding them to complete challenges for the First Lego League Challenge competition. \r\n\r\nOn January 11, our robot club team will be testing their coding skills against other teams in our region. Your donation has allowed more students to handle the Lego Spike robots on an individual basis. Therefore, more of our team members are able to become knowledgeable about how to manipulate the equipment. Previously, we only had 2 Lego Spike robots for 8 students. Now, we have 4 kits. It's nice to know that people like you recognize the benefit of supporting students in endeavors such as a robot competition.","fullyFundedDate":1727380945696,"projectUrl":"project/robotics-for-upper-elementary/8782568/","projectTitle":"Robotics for Upper Elementary","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wiley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9606713"},{"teacherId":9606713,"projectId":8517992,"letterContent":"Your generosity was much appreciated! Students in my STEM class were able to get excited about the projects we did due to the engaging nature of the books from this project. For example, I read How to Code a Sandcastle to kindergarten. It really helped them come to understand the meaning of the word, code, as related to programming. Since the lesson was presented, every time I review the word, they remember the meaning. The relatable story of building a sandcastle and the mishaps that happened during the story were age appropriate for kindergarten. Then, the students did an activity with yellow paper that looked like sandcastle pieces. After building a sandcastle with the pieces, they had to give their partner the code for how to make the exact same sandcastle.\r\n\r\nOther books from the project were Shark Lady, Papa's Mechanical Fish, and Frank the Seven-Legged Spider, among others. Students were able to learn about different species of fish, bouyancy as related to submarines, and characteristics of spiders. Especially with picture books, students are able to practice the skill of prediction. They also like to share connections to the events in the story. Finally, background knowledge is an important part of understanding, and the books presented valuable information that made the goals of each STEM activity more clear. \r\n\r\nAs a donor, you can be assured that your generosity led to some new discoveries in my STEM classes.","fullyFundedDate":1726314004227,"projectUrl":"project/stem-engagement-through-literature/8517992/","projectTitle":"STEM Engagement Through Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wiley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9606713"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78115","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":145,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":28,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":94,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"9.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":92.3,"schoolId":78115,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North Shelby Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"North Shelby Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/north-shelby-school-district/north-shelby-elementary-school/78115"}
