Thanks to your support of my project, Chomping at the Bit for STEM Creations, our students now have the ChompSaw we needed.\r\nYour contribution has transformed the learning environment. Here is a peek into how we are using the resources and what it has meant for my students:\r\n\tWhen I first showed my students the ChompSaw, they were excited and eager to learn how to use it. We practiced by cutting straight lengths of cardboard: both cereal box and shipping box cardboards, as well as cutting felt. The smoothness of each piece was exciting for the students as they knew just how hard it is to use scissors on these materials.\r\n\tWe then needed some practice using the ChompSaw and understanding how it cuts when it is not a straight line. It isn't as easy as it looks! We practiced with the tool and then used it to cut out our puppets to do a digital citizenship puppet show. The kids loved being able to use this tool and the edges of our paper/cardboard puppets are smooth and rounded.\r\n\tWe then used these puppets to practice and put on two different plays for our kindergarten classes to show off what we learned about being safe online as well as to teach them. The puppets made the show more entertaining and fun.\r\n\tMy students are looking forward to next semester when they are planning to build their own city. This will give them time to refine their skills at cutting cardboard and other materials to create the city and experiment with engineering design. They also were inspired by the puppet shows and want to make more complex puppets for their next show, which has impacted them in getting excited to write their own stories and recreate those from favorite picture books. In this way, a STEM tool has crossed the boundaries of engineering and reading and writing. That is a great way to solidify their enthusiasm for learning.\r\nThank you once again for your incredible kindness and for giving my students the opportunity to learn, explore, and grow with this wonderful resource. You are making a difference every day in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758280109409,"projectUrl":"project/chomping-at-the-bit-for-stem-creations/9656993/","projectTitle":"Chomping at the Bit for STEM Creations!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Boyd","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3723299"},{"teacherId":9272776,"projectId":9282684,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations. They have given the students the most opportunities to explore new games that they might not have a chance to play at home. Their excitement went the chairs, bean bag, bouncy ball chairs and shelves arrived was a joy to witness. Our classroom has become more comfortable by far- the cozy vibes increased ten fold, which in turn increased our student's feeling of safety. When students feel safe, they are better able to learn.\r\nOur work binders are well organized and easy to access in our new shelves, making for quick transitions between activities. Students can choose to bring our bouncy balls and wobble stool to the work tables or sit in our regular chairs during our warm up activities. Being able to wiggle and bounce while working helps many or our students focus.\r\nDuring our independent work time and project work time students can work at our tables or sit on the bean bag, big chair, bouncy balls or wobble stools. This creates more individual space for students to work in and choices for more social work or quite time. \r\nI have greatly enjoyed watching students delve into projects and truly embrace their creativity in our updated and flexible seating space.
