The beautiful new rug has quickly become the heart of our room—a place where we gather for morning meetings, share stories, build community, and dive into rich learning conversations. The classroom supplies have made it possible for every child to have access to the materials they need to feel confident and booming. From colorful markers to folders and whiteboards, our supplies are being used daily across all subject areas.\r\n\r\nI'll never forget the smiles and excited whispers that filled the room when my students walked in and saw the new rug laid out for the first time. One student whispered, \"It feels like home now.\" That moment captured precisely what I hoped for: a safe and joyful place where children feel seen, valued, and ready to learn. Currently, we are working on a reading project focused on character development, and the rug has become our story circle where students discuss their ideas and practice accountable talk. Next, we'll be using our new supplies to support a creative writing project, where students will publish personal narratives inspired by their own experiences.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in us and investing in our learning journey. You didn't just provide materials, you gave my students a space where learning feels exciting, and where they feel genuinely cared for.\r\n\r\nWarmly,\r\nMs. Walker-Jackson","fullyFundedDate":1730081618252,"projectUrl":"project/moving-3-grade-levels-donate-to-support/8483748/","projectTitle":"Moving 3 Grade Levels! Because of your donation, our students now have a wide variety of options for both indoor and outdoor recess. Since our school is located in downtown Kansas City, finding safe and open spaces for play can be challenging—but your contribution has truly transformed what's possible for our kids. When the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students lit up with joy and couldn't wait to try everything out.\r\n\r\nThese new resources have brought more structure to recess and created meaningful opportunities for students to practice teamwork, communication, and cooperation. Even students who are typically hesitant to join in have found activities they enjoy. These texts have introduced my students to a variety of skills and lessons, ranging from critical thinking and vocabulary building to understanding themes like empathy, perseverance, and diversity. For example, we've been exploring how characters face challenges and discussing how those lessons apply to our own lives and our own identity.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom space, reading has become a more exciting time. After the main lesson on whatever skill we are practicing, we try and find time for independent reading. The students have loved this part and we have created cozy spaces where they can curl up with their favorite books, fostering a love for reading at their own pace and with characters they can relate to.\r\n\r\nOne student who comes to mind, Jerardo, has developed a newfound confidence through these books. He used to struggle with reading confidence and often felt it was too hard or too boring. But now, with access to engaging texts at his reading level, he is consistently asking when we will keep reading the new book we started! Another student, Diego, who is very shy, has found a passion for graphic novels through one of the new titles and now is always asking to borrow the new book.\r\n\r\nThank you for being a part of this journey!","fullyFundedDate":1728000340322,"projectUrl":"project/wiggle-seats-for-wiggly-learners/8528581/","projectTitle":"Wiggle Seats for Wiggly Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sweeney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7557970_orig.jpg?crop=403,403,x40,y31&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722354861442","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7557970"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_109239","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":242,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":46,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.5,"schoolId":109239,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Crossroads Academy-Quality Hill on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Crossroads Academy-Quality Hill","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/missouri-department-of-education/quality-hill-academy-opens-fall-2016-/109239"}
