They ask me every day \"when are we going to the greenhouse next?\" It is such a pleasure to see students learning about nature and really going all in on growing things. Once set up, the gardening committee of our club grew from 5 people to 12. Our students have even created a plan for what we will do with our plants, which are all flowers and a few tomatoes. \r\n\r\nWe visit the greenhouse 2 times per week to either start seeds or tend those already sprouting. We discuss lighting, water needs, the types of soil. When the seedlings sprout, we discuss thinning them out, fertilizer, and other care. The students have decided which plants we will use in our dedicated flower beds and which we will use to offer for sale to teachers, parents, and staff. We are planning on becoming self-funding for the greenhouse. We are also using the opportunity to let the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club do the marketing for these sales. The greenhouse seeds are not only the seeds for our plants, but also the seeds of cooperation between different groups in our school. \r\n\r\nMany of the students have asked if they could take any extra seeds and plant them at home. They plan on writing little plant-care cards to go with any plants we give out or sell. This will require some research on their parts which is another opportunity to learn. Thank you for helping our students learn and grow along with the plants. Your donation has truly been the \"seed\" to a future love of nature.","fullyFundedDate":1764730086842,"projectUrl":"project/greenhousegardening-for-urban-core-midd/9833596/","projectTitle":"Greenhouse/Gardening for Urban Core Middle School Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Oren","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8812224_orig.jpg?crop=2250,2250,x0,y165&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760724783584","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8812224"},{"teacherId":8812224,"projectId":7099514,"letterContent":"We have had a fantastic year with the National Junior Honor Society. The opportunities for leadership and service really help them grow. Our NJHS organization is a source of great pride for our school. Students are really happy to work on their portfolios.
