The students learned so much about the homeless and how it is our responsiblity as a citizen to help others in need.\r\n\r\nThe students wrote uplifting words of encouragement on the inspiration cards for the bag of items to be distributed. The students then formed a line and collected one of each item purchased for the bag. These items included toothbrush/paste, lotion, shampoo, body wipes, lip balm, deodran, tissues and socks. The students learned about the importance of meeting the homeless teens basic needs by items in these bags.\r\n\r\nNext month, the spokesperson from The Covenant House will come talk to the students about the homeless teens they serve. The speaker is always inspirational and able to articulate why it is important to be a good citizen.\r\n\r\nThis project is so imporant for our students to learn empathy towards others. We received these books last week and the students are really enjoying using them.\r\n\r\nWe use the book once a week as an alternative tool to a phonics lesson. The students have so far worked on beginning sounds and CVC words with the missing vowel sound. While the students are working quietly on the book, I am able to pull reading small groups. It works well as the students are actively engaged in the sticker book page while I am working with other students.\r\n\r\nThis supplemental Phonic Sticker books has been another tool to teach student phonics in class. The extra snacks always help hungry kids. My students can bring a snack everyday. Sometimes the students forget their snack and other students don't have the means to bring in extra snacks. I never want a child not to be fed if they are hungry. Previously, I funded the snacks myself. I appreciate you providng the funds where I was able to purchase extra snacks to last me throughout the school year. \r\n\r\nWe also used the snacks for two activities. We made snowmen with the mini oreos during the holidays. The students learned so much about the sacrifices the Veterans made for our country. The Veterans were so impressed with the beautiful setup to celebrate them. The setup happened because of your generous donations. \r\n\r\nAs you can see by the pictures, everyone had a fantastic time. The boy scouts presented the flags, the Ambassadors read Veteran poems and sang patriotic songs. Even the highschool choir came and sang two songs to the Veterans. Our principal gave a short speech honoring the veterans. The Veterans were able to leave with a gift of a flag pin or bracelet thanks to your donations. It was a very touching ceremony for many.\r\n\r\nWe can't express how grateful we are to our donors. They compared and contrasted the differences between the stories we heard in class with the story books you purchased.
