Several of my \"I hate reading.\" students have found books and genres they now love! It is so much fun hearing them discuss what they are reading with each other, or asking the school librarian if they know of any other books by the same author or in the same genre. There are very few things, that as a teacher I enjoy more than watching a student fall in love with reading. \r\n\r\nMore and More students are looking forward to the 20 minutes of silent reading we have during our Academic support periods now. This semester I will be implementing a reading journal that that will give them guided journal entries to complete weekly. I look forward to seeing what their thoughts and responses to their reading looks like. This 20 minutes also teaches them that reading can be a way to decompress and not worry about the drama that is being a middle school student. It is so rewarding to see these students truly relax in this time and place. To slow down, breathe, escape from the chaos that is their reality at times. So, thank you, thank you and thank you again for helping me guide my students in healthy reading and life skills.","fullyFundedDate":1728000340098,"projectUrl":"project/rolings-readers-part-2/8707208/","projectTitle":"Roling's Readers Part 2","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Roling","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8064985_orig.jpg?crop=3265,3265,x571,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1675475226678","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8064985"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_133513","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":50,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":70.0,"schoolId":133513,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Alvin Brooks Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Alvin Brooks Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/hickman-mills-c-1-school-district/hickman-mills-south-middle-school/133513"}
