The 2024-2025 academic year is quickly wrapping up for my district, although I will continue to provide support to my students year-round. I work directly with students processing their various degrees and layers of complex trauma. It is vital for me to meet them where they are on their journey. \r\n\r\nI primarily attend to the needs of Kindergarten through Fifth graders, but I do also have secondary level students that I provide services too as well. Trauma work can be a very heavy process not only for the children but for myself as well. It doesn't matter what the age of the student is, I have come to realize that discussing difficult experiences requires a particular or special way of approaching certain topics. Fidgets, art, puppets, bibliotherapy, sand, and games provide such a crucial role in helping with communication skills, breaking down barriers with exploration of feelings, and assisting with the development of appropriate social skills.\r\n\r\nThe books placed in my bibliotherapy library collection have aided a soft spot when breaking from participation in trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and emdr therapy. I cannot thank you enough! I sincerely apologize for the delay in sending my impact letter following the submission of thank you cards. I personally experienced a tremendous amount of grief this year. I was challenged to work through my own grief in real time while helping my students complete their trauma work. On a positive note, watching my students create transformative work with the supplies that were provided, allowed me to witness their magic, and encouraged growth within myself in topics such as grief that were previously foreign to me. \r\n\r\nI truly hope you enjoy the handwritten cards and the poster that we created!
