We started off the year creating vision boards as we're getting ready to graduate. We laminated them and posted them in our classroom. The pencils, pens, and markers have been very helpful for us to do our different assignments. The students were super excited to not have to worry about going to class without a pencil or other needed materials. They love the mechanical pencils as they prefer those over regular pencils. The dry erase markers have also been very helpful when working out math problems. Some of them had never been given a new sketch book and didn't want to draw in it because it was \"perfect\". Once the reality of yes - it's yours to keep- set in, the art started pouring in.\r\n A good chunk of our students see therapists, and even more need to. The sketch books have been a very healthy outlet for them. They couldn't wait to see what else was coming. I teach special education and these materials really helped me add to my calm down corner. The weighted blanket and animal have really helped one of my autistic students. She uses them daily and hasn't had to leave the classroom since she's started using them. The floor seats allow my students to get away from others to do their lessons when needed. Unfortunately, we've had a lot of snow days this semester and I haven't been able to utilize the lesson books much yet, but my students have enjoyed reading some of the stories about anxiety in a couple books. It's helped them realize other people have anxiety, it's okay, and some new ways to deal with it. My students and I are very thankful for all your donations and support of mental health.","fullyFundedDate":1730571521449,"projectUrl":"project/creating-calmness-in-high-school-for-aca/8911299/","projectTitle":"Creating Calmness in High School for Academic Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McFarland","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9162954"},{"teacherId":9820701,"projectId":8911237,"letterContent":"How are you and your students using the new resources? Share a specific classroom project or moment.\r\nWe have a walking for fitness class that started at the high school this year. It is a good time for students to get a few miles of steps in while talking with friends or listening to music. All parts of the health triangle are affected by this class. I have several students who are using the vests and some hand or ankle weights to add some strength training to it too! They are seeing they can develop muscle and tone their body, while walking with their friends improving their mental and social health. \r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\nThey were excited about the vests more than anything. I have worn one all last semester and I told them how much I noticed my body changing and getting stronger which has improved my self-esteem, so they were excited for the same! I have some kids who even wear them the rest of the school day when they aren't being used for a PE class. \r\n\r\nThe next steps for this project would be to have enough vests for every student. I have enough step counters due to this project. Right now we have to share days with the weights vests.","fullyFundedDate":1730458008615,"projectUrl":"project/walking-for-mental-physical-and-social/8911237/","projectTitle":"Walking for mental, physical, and social health","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mills","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9820701"},{"teacherId":9826640,"projectId":8920804,"letterContent":"My students and I thank you for the new mental health books you've donated to our classroom. These books have introduced a wealth of valuable skills and lessons, from developing emotional intelligence to fostering resilience in the face of challenges. With a focus on self-awareness, coping strategies, and understanding mental health from diverse perspectives, these books have empowered students to consider their emotions, behaviors, and well-being.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, students engage with reading through thoughtful discussions and group activities that encourage reflection and connection. By making mental health a priority through literature, students are learning that reading is not just about acquiring knowledge, but about connecting to themselves and each other in a meaningful, supportive way. The books you've helped bring into our classroom have fostered invaluable skills that will continue to shape students' lives well beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1730822193852,"projectUrl":"project/mindful-reading-fostering-teen-mental-h/8920804/","projectTitle":"Mindful Reading: Fostering Teen Mental Health","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dane","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9826640_orig.jpg?crop=749,750,x0,y62&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758547669670","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9826640"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_77749","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":606,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":62,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":93,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":47.4,"schoolId":77749,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Central High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/central-school-district-r3/central-high-school/77749"}
