It is astounding to me how many of my high schoolers did not know much about World War II. As an English class, we were able to explore themes of self-acceptance, tolerance for other religions and cultures, and the triumph of good over evil. That message is still relevant in the current climate in which we live. \r\n\r\nMy students were able to improve their reading comprehension levels while also learning about the struggle for human rights. The novels enabled my students to actually hold a physical book in their hands. While technology is very useful, the students were able to read without the temptation of playing games on their chrome books.
