The students were able to learn about and experience the butterfly life cycle with hatching Painted Lady butterflies. We even extended our skill by designing and constructing butterfly hatching houses to keep in our classroom.\r\nWith the planter boxes we received, the students decorated the outside of the boxes and planted seeds for other students to be able to watch as the plant life grew. Many students enjoyed getting to see our wildflower garden grow and stopped often to investigate the process of the plants.\r\nAnother very popular part of this project was learning about the different types of bees. As most children tend to have a fear of these insects, we were able to learn how some types of bees are extremely important to the success of our environment. They loved traveling into magical lands where children were the main characters with mystical dragons. Even that little hamster, Humprey, opened my student's eyes to a world told from an animal's point of view. They have enjoyed writing their own creative stories or even giving a different ending to a chapter from one of our new books. We have been able to use these stories/chapters to look at things like character traits, vivid language, sensory words, and overall literary structure.
