One of our first major uses of the materials was during our unit on the difference of chemical and physical changes where I used the materials that you've donated to see what chemical reactions is all about. Students explored evidence of chemical change—color changes, gas production, and temperature changes—using the new lab equipment and supplies. For many of them, it was the first time to see and perform the actual experiment that they said they usually see in some tiktok videos and reels.\r\n\r\nA memorable moment was during a \"mystery reactions\" lab, where students were grouped and had to create their own procedure in testing unknown substances and determine whether reactions were physical or chemical changes. I watched students go from hesitant to fully immersed—carefully observing, debating their findings, and recording data like real scientists. I am happy to see that they are really into the experiments and even sharing ideas on why that particular reaction occurs and what caused it. It made them realize the importance of knowing the basics in Chemistry such as identifying substances, observing changes, how substances react, etc...\r\n\r\nWith your donations, my students are now full of excitement. They will not just be reading textbooks and watch videos online or even do virtual laboratory- they can now do it real time. They have smile on their faces the moment I told them that finally we can experiment and when they finally saw the new materials unpacked in the classroom that we can use for experiments. I remembered when one of my students was really excited and keeps on asking, \"When are we going to fly our rockets Ms. P? or can we have our experiment now Ms. P?. These questions gives me motivation to prepare exciting activities for them with the use of your donations.\r\n\r\nWith our new resources, we are moving into deeper standards in Chemistry and students will soon conduct guided investigations with the use of the materials you have donated. These hands-on experiences will help them make connections between abstract concepts and real-world applications—something many of my students struggle with but are now excited to explore.\r\n\r\nYour support did more than purchase materials—you gave my students opportunities they never had before. I have given out some snacks and stickers as prizes, as well as some snacks as occasional emergency rations for kids who haven't had breakfast or lunch. There are still plenty of snacks and stickers left! The kids have also been thankful for the tissues, paper towels, and other personal care items. \r\n\r\nWe have just started working on research and MLA citations, so the kids have made their first set of research notecards with the index cards you donated. They will use the index cards and highlighters much more intensively when they work on their major research essay in January and February. I have uploaded one photo of a few students' introductory notecard sets as an example.\r\n\r\nI have also attached photos of the verb tenses wall chart I created, which would have been much sloppier without your donated rotary cutter, rotary mat, and grid rulers. Several kids have asked me, \"Who made that?!\" and I get to explain how I used your art supplies to create the customized grammar chart in Callaway orange and blue. One student even asked me how to do the lettering (who knew I could be an art teacher?). I appreciate being able to make the room look unique and professional with the high-quality materials you donated. It's also lovely not to have to look at the beat-up cinder blocks in that corner of the room anymore. I will definitely create more wall charts for other grammar topics as the year progresses.\r\n\r\nIt means a lot both to my students and me to know that we have community support. There is a lot of pride here!
