When I put them out in a display on top of a long, low bookshelf, the students noticed them right away as they entered the library. I had them sit on the carpet as usual, but their attention was on the books. Because of this, I led the discussion of the new books first thing. The first week of the display, each class got to preview the new books and sign up on the waiting list for the books they wanted to check out. Then during check out in the second week, the students whose name was at the top of the waiting list got to take home the book home. The display of books got emptied a little more during each class. Dinosaur books really are irresistible!\r\n I was surprised at the different age levels who were excited at the sight of the new books. Our school has Kindergarten through grade 6, and all ages had students who couldn't wait to see the new dinosaur books up close. \r\n My goal is to make my students into lifelong readers.
