In Kindergarten, dramatic play is a huge part of the kids learning social skills. They have treated the baby dolls, blankets, bottles, and pots/pans so nicely. I have been able to use the plastic bins to store supplies needed for our daily morning meeting, which has been so helpful. The students have been loving the manipulatives toys. They play with them EVERY day! \r\nWith these items, my students will be able to enjoy their play time, learn social skills, and build upon their learning EVERY day! And that is something that is very special. In my role within a school system, I am primarily working with students who need extra levels of support. I work with both students who are on IEPs as well as students who aren't. My role is to meet students where they are, and help them gain the skills they need. \r\nSince receiving my items, I have been able to intervene with numerous students who simply needed something to do with their hands while we verbally processed what was bothering them. The sensory bin was a huge hit with my students. It fostered creativity and imagination as the student asked about space and aliens. This created a beautiful segue into talking about how one's actions can impact others. \r\nA lot of the tools I requested in this group are items that are child specific and will be used up quickly. The chewies are a huge hit as we see more students with sensory needs. Having a food based silicone chew is a safer alternative to a student trying to chew on an eraser or pencil. \r\nAgain, thank you for your generosity. Know that your donation will impact many students and be a catalyst for positive growth and change.","fullyFundedDate":1735249868586,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-tools-for-students/9004802/","projectTitle":"Sensory Tools for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hunstad","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9873179"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_76298","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":531,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":23,"percentWhite":42,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":94.1,"schoolId":76298,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Westwood Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Westwood Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/st-cloud-independent-school-district-742/westwood-elementary-school/76298"}
