Every week, I remind them that we only have those materials thanks to gracious donors like yourself.\r\n\r\nWe have in our schedule a brief enrichment period before lunch, a time for our students to choose something that they would find interesting to do with a group of friends. So far, forty-six students have chosen the six or twelve week session to play with LEGO, an activity that they can enjoy with friends. We share the sets between teams of students: several students eagerly awaiting their turn with one of the big sets, like the medieval dinosaur, while others are happy to play for days without instructions, making original creations out of the yellow Classic Creative Brick Box. \r\n\r\nWhen the students complete their projects, whether regular sets or creations from the brick box, we display them briefly in the library next to the check out, or in the office. In the case of the library, we have even paired the display with books! A large, forest green book is placed underneath the t-rex set, \"Anthology of Dinosaurs\" visible on the spine. Behind the macaw set, a comparatively thin encyclopedia of birds provides a splash of lavender behind the bright blue and yellow.\r\n\r\nMany of the students have LEGO at home, but each session includes many who say they have never built with the bricks before. Carefully following the instructions, they are proud to see their work pay off in something beautiful, something they may never have the chance to do. I really appreciate your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1758829777193,"projectUrl":"project/middle-school-lego-club/9715899/","projectTitle":"Middle School LEGO Club","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Josué","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9928069_orig.png?crop=446,446,x25,y7&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757987486389","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9928069"},{"teacherId":9928381,"projectId":9123880,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous gift to the Band program at South Junior High. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous donation of graphic novels for my 6th grade language arts classroom. Your support plays a crucial role in enriching our students' learning experiences.\r\n\r\nThe addition of these graphic novels not only enhances academic engagement but also fosters social connections among young readers through book clubs. These clubs provide a valuable platform for students to discuss diverse texts, encouraging critical thinking and collaboration.\r\n\r\nMoreover, offering students a choice in their reading materials and ensuring text diversity is essential for their development as readers. It helps them to relate more personally to the stories and characters, promoting a love for reading that can last a lifetime.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your generosity and commitment to our students' education.","fullyFundedDate":1739559175821,"projectUrl":"project/diverse-texts-book-club/9111843/","projectTitle":"Diverse Texts Book Club","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bitz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8970693_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739417523792","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8970693"},{"teacherId":8964822,"projectId":9125165,"letterContent":"This project has been a dream come true for many of our students, igniting their passions for creativity, innovation, and self-expression. Thanks to your support, we have been able to:\r\n\r\nEquip our classrooms: We have purchased a set of high-quality sewing machines, allowing students to explore the world of textile arts firsthand. These machines provide a hands-on learning experience, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and fine motor skills.\r\nEmpower student creativity: The sewing machines have opened up a world of possibilities for our students. They are now able to design and create unique garments, accessories, and home decor items, transforming their imaginative ideas into tangible realities.\r\nDevelop valuable life skills: Learning to sew goes beyond artistic expression. It instills valuable life skills such as patience, perseverance, and attention to detail. Students are learning to plan, execute, and troubleshoot, developing a sense of accomplishment and pride in their creations.\r\nBuild confidence and self-esteem: The sewing machines have provided a platform for our students to express themselves creatively and showcase their talents. Success in sewing builds confidence and self-esteem, empowering them to embrace challenges and pursue their passions.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your generosity extends far beyond the classroom. By providing our students with these valuable resources, you are investing in their future success. You are nurturing their creativity, fostering their independence, and preparing them for a lifetime of learning and achievement.","fullyFundedDate":1740329530011,"projectUrl":"project/sewing-is-fun/9125165/","projectTitle":"Sewing Is Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Klug","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8964822"},{"teacherId":9927461,"projectId":9121563,"letterContent":"Our PBIS Rewards drawing was a huge success. Including our Donors Choose prizes, we awarded 204 students prizes to reinforce their commitment to our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program. Students were very excited to enter and possibly win the drawings using their PBIS points and were very appreciative of the prizes themselves. Our Donors Choose items were very popular in the raffles. One of our favorites was the Pencil Grab. Using our Donors Choose pencil donation, winning students were able to grab as many pencils as they can with 2 hands and donate those pencils to the classroom of their choice. Dozens of students registered for that drawing and 10 were winners. We love to see students give back. We plan to continue to offere PBIS Rewards drawing and judging from the response to this drawing, students will strive to earn points to be used in future drawings by demonstrating that they are kind, cooperative members of our community. Eleven were female, and nine were male. Students represented five different ethnicities and six different home languages.\r\n\r\nStudents who signed up had a wide range of skill levels. Some had a background in team sports, and others were relatively new to strength-building exercises. We spent a lot of time on the correct form for basic activities such as planks, wall sits, and lunges. Most of them were brand new to using exercise bands. It was fun to watch them realize that something that seemed easy after one or two repetitions became much more challenging when we kept it up for 2 minutes.\r\n\r\nMost felt it was a nice break in the day and helped them refocus for their afternoon classes. I think I will offer this opportunity again, especially since we now have all the equipment we need.","fullyFundedDate":1733063761521,"projectUrl":"project/teach-7th-graders-how-to-improve-strengt/8969117/","projectTitle":"Teach 7th Graders How to Improve Strength and Flexibility","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Snowberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9848583"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_76295","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":831,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":42,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":92.3,"schoolId":76295,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/st-cloud-independent-school-district-742/south-junior-high-school/76295"}
