Our Classroom Feels Calmer, Braver, and More Joyful\r\nWe got funded — and our students felt it immediately.\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, there were gasps and wide eyes. One student hugged the Emotions Coin Drop before we even opened it. Another said, \"Is that for our calm-down spot?!\" They knew right away these materials were meant for them.\r\nHow we're using the new resources:\r\nThe Emotions Coin Drop has become a powerful part of our morning routine. During circle time, students choose a feeling coin and share why they're feeling happy, sad, excited, or frustrated. One little friend who usually struggles to put feelings into words quietly dropped in the \"sad\" coin and said, \"I miss my mom.\" That moment led to peers offering comfort — real connection happening in real time.\r\nThe Changing Seasons Sensory Tubes are now in our calming corner. Students independently choose them when they need to regulate. I've already seen children take deep breaths while watching the swirling colors settle — a beautiful visual reminder that big feelings can settle too.\r\nOur Trace & Write Alphabet Center and Shape Sorting Center are being used during small group literacy and math rotations. Students are building fine motor strength, letter formation skills, and shape recognition in hands-on, engaging ways. The laminating pouches have allowed us to create durable, reusable learning tools customized to our class — especially helpful for our multilingual learners who benefit from visual supports.\r\nThe reaction? Pure joy. They felt seen. They felt important. They felt like someone out there cared about their classroom.\r\nWhat's next?\r\nWe are continuing our social-emotional learning focus by integrating the feeling tools into storytelling and dramatic play. Students are beginning to create simple \"problem-solving plans\" using the language we've practiced:\r\n\"I feel ___. I need ___.\"\r\nAcademically, we are building from letter tracing into letter-sound connections and name writing. In math, we're moving from shape sorting into describing attributes and comparing shapes.\r\nBecause of you, our classroom isn't just stocked — it's strengthened.\r\nYou helped create a space where children can regulate, connect, and grow.\r\nThank you for investing in our little learners and in the heart of our classroom. 💛🌻","fullyFundedDate":1763062060038,"projectUrl":"project/little-learners-and-hands-on-play/9878736/","projectTitle":"Little Learners and Hands on Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bengtson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10066732_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753104180070","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10066732"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74552","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":674,"numTeachers":56,"percentFrplEligible":40,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":17,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":74552,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Parkview Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Parkview Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/rosemount-apple-vly-eagan-196/parkview-elementary-school/74552"}
