With your help, our sunflowers, tomatoes, carrots, radishes and zinnias are going to be able to grow during the summer months. The rain barrels serve two purposes: to provide water to the irrigation pump to water our crops and to allow families access to water during the summer months to help grow our garden. To date, families have already utilized these rain barrels to help water the garden during breaks from nearby softball and baseball games. The engagement that access to water provides in the garden for families and our community is immeasurable. Through your donations, our families are benefiting from spending time in the garden, students are learning about food production, sustainability and connection to nature. And while all of these things are happening, our garden is growing food that can be shared with our school community. \r\n\r\nRecently, two fourth grade students helped me to install the irrigation system and sprinklers in the garden. They worked so hard, using spades to dig trenches to bury the lines in. They planned out where the sprinklers would be best placed. They thought about which beds would benefit most from the sprinklers and how to get the line to the bed. This was a functional lesson in planning and engineering in the garden. \r\n\r\nI know that our new irrigation system will help to create the learning environment that our garden is supposed to be. If you, as a donor, are ever in town, we would love to see YOU at the garden as well.","fullyFundedDate":1746815125967,"projectUrl":"project/science-and-agriculture-for-the-littles/9285171/","projectTitle":"Science and Agriculture for the Littles: Help Our Garden Grow!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Amber McMullen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1485339_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1451431574733","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/aschaefer"},{"teacherId":1485339,"projectId":9022930,"letterContent":"Thank you, Donors, for your willingness to give. It has been my own personal joy to see the smiles on their faces when their micro:bit does exactly what they've programmed it to do - feels what they've programmed it to feel - looks the way they've programmed it to look!
