One of the most exciting has been our explanatory writing unit. The students are learning how to clearly explain their ideas and thoughts. Recently, they wrote about how to solve double-digit subtraction problems with regrouping. They took their time breaking down the steps, explaining everything from how to borrow numbers to how to check the answer. Their writing has been improving so much as they make sure to clearly explain each step for their classmates to understand!\r\n\r\nAlongside that, we've been diving into double-digit subtraction with regrouping. It was a challenge at first, but with the new resources, like manipulatives and visual aids, the students have really grasped the concept. They love using the base-ten blocks and drawing models to help them see how regrouping works. It's been incredible to see the \"Aha!\" moments when they finally understand how to borrow!\r\n\r\nAnd of course, all the fun with maps! We've been learning about different types of maps—physical, political, and even treasure maps! The kids were so excited when we created our own classroom map, adding in important features like the library, lunchroom, and their desks. It's been a fun, hands-on way for them to explore geography and understand their world better.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for our current lessons are for the students to write more explanatory pieces, this time on how maps help us find places and understand locations. They'll also be continuing to practice double-digit subtraction with real-world problems. The goal is for them to be able to explain these processes and use them confidently in their daily lives!\r\n\r\nYour generous donations have made all of these learning experiences possible, and we can't wait to continue growing and learning with these new tools!
