The impact has been truly fantastic.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes of materials arrived—full of the bright new markers, sharpened colored pencils etc. It looked like Christmas morning. My students were so excited to open the boxes (and about the bubble wrap that came with haha). Their reaction was one of excitement, gratitude, and appreciation. It made them really realize that people they don't even know have contributed to their education and they felt so supported and cared for by that. The biggest moment was when they saw the new pencil sharpener (after dealing with the struggle of the broken one all year) literally cheered. For 7th graders, having their own fresh supplies—rather than the dull, broken ones we had—is a huge confidence booster. It validates their work and makes them feel respected and eager to take more accountability for the materials. \r\n\r\nWe have been able to do fun goal setting activities that we turned into a fun arts project. Also, we just talked about graphic novels and they made THE CUTEST comic pages with their brand new supplies and they had such a good time but they also turned out so good! \r\n\r\nThank you again so much! During our time together we review the year's robotics challenge and brainstorm how we can transfer motion to complete tasks, constructing mechanisms as we settle on solutions. This year speed has been a top priority. \r\n\r\nI also want to include a note on the steadily growing excitement and engagement of our students in designing, building, and coding robots to operate. They are experiencing, first-hand, not only what it takes to engineer controlled and automated machines, but also their own abilities in doing so. Robotics engineering may sound like a lofty pursuit, but with time and resources robotics is within the reach of even middle-schoolers. \r\n\r\nWith the REV Servo Power Modules you have provided us we are able to utilize VEX robotics motors (specifically VEX 393 motors) that have been part of our school's curriculum for longer than I've been teaching. These design projects include \"Future Cities\" and \"Renewable Energy Research Projects.\" The Future Cities project requires students brainstorm all of the elements that make up a city (housing, transportation, recreation, access to food and healthcare, energy, etc) while considering infrastructural and technological advancements that can make our communities greener and better connected. With the Renewable Energy Research Project students learn about how we use energy, where we get energy, differences between renewable and non-renewable energy sources, and focus on advancements in \"green\" energy technology. They then need to design a model of their technology and create a summary identifying the pros/cons/other considerations of what they chose to model. \r\n\r\nHaha, this requires a lot of materials. We have designed flexible \"shaft collars\" to replace the clumsy steel shaft collars, which have set screws that frequently become loose. Our robotics team has designed a plethora of parts specifically designed to suit the needs of their competition robots (e.g. gripper arms, battery pack and brain holders, cable stays, team number holders, etc.). Last year's robotics team decided to create their own flexible intake wheels using silicone and a 3D printed mold - I never would have thought of such a great idea! We require them for our drone controllers, VEX robotics controllers, and afterschool video gaming groups. We learn how to test a battery's state-of-capacity using battery testers and voltage meters. We explore how DC motors work, being able to supply a current (from a battery) or supply the mechanical motion (via wind turbine blades) necessary to create a current. \r\n\r\nAll in all, your support allows us to continue carrying out our discovery processes and creative endeavors.\r\n\r\nThank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1742937131534,"projectUrl":"project/common-core-consumables/9113586/","projectTitle":"Common Core Consumables","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Schadegg's Technology Class","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8673476_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1675980272404","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8673476"},{"teacherId":9651817,"projectId":9001428,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to our project, \"Math City Project\"!
