The addition of new Hispanic Heritage books has made a meaningful impact on our students by providing representation, validation, and a deeper sense of belonging. For many of our students, seeing characters, authors, and stories that reflect their own cultural backgrounds has been both affirming and empowering.\r\n\r\nThis project came about because I felt our library was lacking the representation our Latinx students deserved in our shared space. This project became even more meaningful when it was funded during a very volatile time in our state, our city, and our Fridley community. These books were delivered when a large number of our students were engaged in distance learning due to Operation Metro Surge. Now that many of our students are back and learning in person, they are excited to come to the library and see their stories on the shelves.","fullyFundedDate":1769644181909,"projectUrl":"project/celebrating-hispanic-heritage-month-thro/9752056/","projectTitle":"Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month Through Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Matthews-Baussan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9820250_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730384355654","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9820250"},{"teacherId":9820250,"projectId":9068910,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation. Adding new manga to the library has had a noticeable and positive impact on my students, significantly increasing both library usage and student engagement with reading. Students will walk into the library and audibly gasp at the new and constantly growing collection of manga. \r\n\r\nOne of my goals as a high school librarian is to get students excited about reading. I believe that graphic novels and manga are a great way to get even the most hesitant readers excited about reading. Building a manga collection that the students are happy with has not been an easy or inexpensive task, but your generous donations have made it just that much easier.","fullyFundedDate":1742946858612,"projectUrl":"project/more-manga-for-i-love-to-read-month/9068910/","projectTitle":"More Manga for I Love to Read Month!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Matthews-Baussan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9820250_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730384355654","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9820250"},{"teacherId":9820250,"projectId":9248846,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations. Working with a diverse group of students, it is essential that they see themselves reflected in the books I bring into the library. Introducing new books that focus on Arab American experiences has had a profound impact on my students, encouraging them to engage with diverse perspectives that might be similar or different from their own. It also helps to broaden their understanding of identity, culture, and history.\r\n\r\nThese titles arrived shortly before the end of last school year, and the students were excited to see the new titles and have been even more excited about checking them out this school year.
