Afterward, students used the sentence strips to build, rearrange, and reread the sentences they created—an essential step for learners with autism and developmental disabilities who benefit from hands-on, structured literacy routines.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their excitement was immediate. Several were drawn in by the vibrant Mr. Sketch markers, and many commented on the smells and colors, which helped increase engagement and focus. The larger chart paper made it easier for students to visually track text, and the sentence strips encouraged active participation from even our most reluctant writers.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for our class include using these materials to move into the final phases of Predictable Chart Writing, where students will create their own individual books based on the shared writing we've completed. These books help them practice reading, writing, and sequencing in a predictable, supportive format. Thanks to your donation, our students can continue developing their literacy skills with tools that meet their sensory, visual, and developmental needs.
