These materials have made it possible to fully implement project-based learning, where students move beyond memorization to engage deeply with concepts through creativity and collaboration. The creation of board games, in particular, has become one of the most powerful ways for students to demonstrate understanding. To design a successful game, students must truly comprehend the content. They have to identify key ideas, translate those ideas into mechanics or rules, and construct challenges or scenarios that accurately reflect what they've learned. This process requires not just recall, but critical thinking, synthesis, and problem-solving—skills that extend far beyond a single subject area.\r\n\r\nThe art supplies have further elevated this process. Students don't just create games; they design full experiences, complete with decorated boards, illustrated cards, and custom game pieces. The artistic component helps students take pride in their work, giving them an outlet for self-expression while also reinforcing their academic learning. The supplies have allowed them to see that learning can be both intellectually rigorous and creatively fulfilling.\r\n\r\nMost of these projects are done in groups, fostering collaboration and communication among students. They learn to share ideas, divide responsibilities, and navigate disagreements—all essential life skills that develop naturally through teamwork. I've noticed how students who might struggle in traditional assessments often excel in these projects because they can contribute in diverse ways: some as designers, others as writers, artists, or strategic thinkers. Every student finds a way to shine.\r\n\r\nThe excitement these projects generate in my classroom is undeniable. Students are engaged from start to finish, eagerly planning and problem-solving as they bring their ideas to life. They are proud of the final products they create—often wanting to take their completed games home to show their families. Watching them light up as they share their work or play-test one another's games is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. It's a visible reminder that when learning feels meaningful and creative, motivation follows naturally.\r\n\r\nHaving access to these materials has not only deepened students' understanding but also transformed my role as an educator. I can now assess comprehension through authentic, student-centered projects that reflect true mastery. The board game projects, supported by art and craft supplies, have become an anchor in my curriculum—connecting content knowledge with collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. These projects have helped my students see learning as something they build, not just something they receive. Thanks to these resources, my classroom has become a place where imagination, teamwork, and intellectual challenge meet—resulting in stronger learners and more joyful learning experiences for everyone involved.","fullyFundedDate":1757038102408,"projectUrl":"project/social-studies-project-based-learning/9566017/","projectTitle":"Social Studies Project-Based Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9351578_orig.jpg?crop=1365,1365,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699560595162","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-blee"},{"teacherId":9351578,"projectId":9583682,"letterContent":"The expansion of my classroom library has given students access to books they may not have otherwise encountered, opening doors to new voices and perspectives. These resources have had a profound impact not only on my ability to teach world history in dynamic and engaging ways, but also on my students' ability to connect with the past through creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression.\r\n\r\nWith these materials, I've been able to design projects that move beyond textbooks and lectures—inviting students to interact with history in meaningful, lasting ways. Two standout examples come to mind:\r\n\r\nFirst, in our Game Board Project, students were tasked with designing original, playable games based on specific historical eras. Using the donated supplies—colored paper, markers, and other craft materials—they created games based on twentieth century historical events such as World War I and World War II. These weren't just fun activities; they required deep content knowledge, collaboration, and creativity. Students had to research thoroughly, make strategic design choices, and present their work to peers—all while developing a personal connection to the subject matter.\r\n\r\nSecond, the Re-imagination of Famous Artworks project challenged students to reinterpret iconic historical art in a new and unique way either using a different medium than the original was done in or a different style of art. Access to quality art supplies allowed students to explore art themes and be creative. The results were both artistically impressive and intellectually powerful.\r\n\r\nThese projects wouldn't have been possible without the materials provided. More importantly, they sparked conversations, fostered pride in student work, and built a sense of agency in learners who may not typically feel confident in academic settings.\r\n\r\nIn short, the donation of art materials helped transform my classroom into a space where history comes alive—through color, creativity, and student voice. Thank you for supporting this kind of experiential learning. Your contribution is making a difference every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1742895614821,"projectUrl":"project/projectactivity-supplies/9028971/","projectTitle":"Project/Activity Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9351578_orig.jpg?crop=1365,1365,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699560595162","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-blee"},{"teacherId":9351578,"projectId":9029896,"letterContent":"As a drama and speech coach and director, I have always believed in the transformative power of storytelling, performance, and student voice. Over the past few months, the use of high-quality supplemental instructional materials in drama and speech has significantly shaped both my pedagogy and my students' achievements—and has made me a far more effective, confident, and creative educator.\r\n\r\nThese resources have provided structured, accessible, and engaging content that enhances my ability to teach complex performance skills. Whether it's vocal exercises to strengthen projection and articulation, character development frameworks, or script analysis guides, the materials allow me to scaffold learning in a way that meets each student where they are. \r\n\r\nAs a director, these materials have helped me design rehearsals that are more efficient, targeted, and educational. Instead of spending hours creating everything from scratch, I can lean on proven tools that align with standards while still leaving room for creativity. This has given me more time to focus on individualized coaching, character work, and building ensemble cohesion. It's also allowed me to mentor newer students while challenging returning actors in more nuanced ways.\r\n\r\nThese instructional materials have empowered me to grow as a leader. I am more strategic, intentional, and inspired in my work, and that has translated directly into stronger performances, more cohesive teams, and a richer learning experience for all.\r\n\r\nThank you for recognizing the value of arts education and for continuing to invest in the resources that make excellence possible.","fullyFundedDate":1741168282557,"projectUrl":"project/make-mr-lee-a-better-speech-coach-and-p/9029896/","projectTitle":"Make Mr. Lee a Better Speech Coach and Play Director","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9351578_orig.jpg?crop=1365,1365,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699560595162","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-blee"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65762","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":592,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":7,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":70.8,"schoolId":65762,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Crookston High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Crookston High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/crookston-independent-school-district-593/crookston-high-school/65762"}
