The resources that you provided to my classroom, including games, coloring books, fidgets, and more, have been so helpful already in creating a stress free classroom community. Students have been using games, talking to each other, destressing through art and music, and paying attention in class as a result of your generosity. One specific example of this is the games. Before I had these, students struggled with our new cell phone policy and didn't know how to talk to each other or occupy their time without them. Now, they are able to engage with each other and take their eyes off their screens, which improves socialization and mental health.\r\n\r\nWhen we received the materials, my students couldn't believe it! They were so excited, and said that my classroom was a lot more fun. Students have appreciated the opportunities to distress individually as well, with fidgets, coloring books, and headphones. We have also worked on a project using the laminator to create a \"this day in history\" billboard that students interact with every day.\r\n\r\nMy next steps are to continue to encourage students to find ways to destress and interact with each other. Kids deserve to be kids, and I am excited to partner with you and use these resources for good!","fullyFundedDate":1729560777014,"projectUrl":"project/improving-mental-health-in-my-classroom/8894963/","projectTitle":"Improving Mental Health in my Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Herbers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9811658"},{"teacherId":9817109,"projectId":8905206,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for brightening the lives of the teenagers in my classes. The kids were curious and eager as they watched me slowly assemble my mental health station. They would ask me every day if it was ready. Once I had everything set up and labeled, we went over expectations. Students are allowed to quietly go grab a fidget from the drawer whenever they need something to help them focus. When they finish their work, they can go through coloring pages or logic puzzles. Or they are allowed to ask for a five minute break from their work to use the resources so that they can reset before getting back to work.\r\nThe head phones have been awesome in allowing kids to listen to music while they are working without needing their phones. The materials have been used everyday since I got everything set up. The kids are so excited to have some options, and it really lets them know that I care about their well being. I am hoping to expand my station a little moving forward to also include some books for kids in multiple languages to help my EL students feel more at home.
