We have just organized and have the materials ready to be used this spring when we complete a unit on transition skills related to recreation and leisure. We are in MN and are looking forward to spring to use the disc golf equipment and practice our putting.\r\n\r\nStudents were very excited when they saw the materials and we continue to talk about using them. Transition skills are often put to the side with the intense focus on academics and post-secondary at the high school level. We have many students that demonstrate a need for instruction and support with their transition skills in the areas of Daily Living, Post-Secondary Education and Training, Employment, Community Participation and Recreation and Leisure. \r\n\r\nThese two activities, disc golf and mini golf, open up opportunities for students to be in their community and participating in healthy recreational activities.","fullyFundedDate":1731039368341,"projectUrl":"project/economical-recreation-and-leisure-activi/8919470/","projectTitle":"Economical Recreation and Leisure Activities for My Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dalsin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9825991"},{"teacherId":9821870,"projectId":8913273,"letterContent":"I am a teacher of a special education classroom. My students are using the donated items. The amazon kindle is used by a student to further their reading abilities. They find a book at their reading level and will sit for 15 minutes at a time. We are working on reading goal of silently reading for 20 minutes at a time without losing focus. This is huge for us because typically when working on an assignment my students will loose focus after a few minutes.\r\n\r\nWe use the medicine ball and snap circuits for sensory needs. The medicine ball helps improve the students balance, coordination, strength, and endurance also helps with emotional regulation and social participation. The snap circuits are a way that has improved socialization between the students. It's a fun way for them to learn something new while not knowing their interacting with their peers.\r\n\r\nEverything we received , we are so thankful for. Especially in this time of budget cuts. The range of resource books I received has been invaluable in helping students in one-on-one settings focus on their mental health and discover effective coping strategies to navigate difficult situations. These books have been especially useful in addressing anxiety, depression, social skills, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.\r\n\r\nThe books have also facilitated meaningful conversations with students, and many times we've used the worksheets and activities to work through these important topics together. The large box of fidgets has been a great asset, helping students stay engaged during tough discussions, and they're frequently borrowed to assist with emotional regulation in the classroom.\r\n\r\nAnd the Cheez-it snacks? They're a huge favorite with all of my students! Having these snacks available makes it easier to have those challenging conversations, especially when students are tired or hungry. The snacks help fuel their minds, leading to more successful and productive discussions.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting my project. Even when the snacks are gone, the books will continue to be a valuable resource, allowing me to support teens in managing their mental health for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1730867069409,"projectUrl":"project/managing-mental-health-as-a-teen/8920947/","projectTitle":"Managing Mental Health as a Teen","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Burvee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9826661"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74731","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":536,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":28,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":89,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":74731,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cannon Falls Junior Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cannon Falls Junior Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/cannon-falls-independent-school-district-252/cannon-falls-junior-senior-high-school/74731"}
