This DonorsChoose project has been instrumental in helping me build a functional and welcoming learning environment from the first day of school. The supplies and materials provided through your generosity have allowed me to plan and implement engaging, hands-on activities that support student learning and participation from the very beginning of the year.\r\n\r\nBeyond their instructional value, these materials have helped transform my classroom into a space students are excited to be in. Having an organized, well-equipped, and visually inviting room fosters a sense of belonging and pride for students, making it easier for them to collaborate and take ownership of their learning. Before this project, I had only a handful of books left from a previous DonorsChoose project, which made it difficult to offer students meaningful choice or variety in what they read. I also knew that my classroom would have three bookshelves, and I knew that I couldn't possibly fill them all on my own! Thanks to this project being fully funded, I was able to fully stock all three bookshelves in my new classroom, instantly transforming the space into one that invites a value of reading. Walking into a room lined with books sent a clear message to students on day one: reading matters here, and there is something here for you.\r\n\r\nThe impact on my students has been immediate and lasting. With a wide range of genres, topics, and reading levels now available, students are more willing to explore new texts, find books that reflect their interests and identities, and build stamina and confidence as readers. Having abundant options allows me to better support independent reading, book talks, and literacy activities that rely on student choice. When students first walked in this year, many hadn't read a full book in years—or couldn't recall the last book they truly enjoyed. Now, those same students are actively reading during daily independent reading time, swapping recommendations with each other, and even asking if they can check out books to take home. These books that were donated covered many fiction and non-fiction genre which means there is something for every reader on my shelves now! \r\n\r\nThis project didn't just fill an empty bookshelf, but it ignited curiosity, opened doors to empathy and understanding, and helped students reconnect with the joy of reading.
