As the date neared, the students became more and more excited. When the day finally arrived, I took it out of it's case and walked through the halls of the school. The students immediately swarmed me, making comments in hushed tones like \"Cool\" and \"That's a violin?\" Moving away from the traditional violin to an electric one was a good choice. It 'fit' the students better.\r\nOnce the students learned the names for the parts of the violin, and how to rosin the bow (they were amazed that it was made from real horse hair,\" they were able to give it a try. Because it is an electric violin, the students can plug their headphones into it and play it, making only the smallest of sounds. Other students can do their assignments as each student earns time on the instrument. Then we connected it to our amplifier and the whole school could hear them play!","fullyFundedDate":1752586445933,"projectUrl":"project/give-an-at-risk-student-the-chance-to-le/9435278/","projectTitle":"Give an At-risk Student the Chance to Learn an Instrument!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Heizelman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10064690"},{"teacherId":10064690,"projectId":9435234,"letterContent":"Beats. Rhythms. Samples. Whatever you call them, they are the heartbeat of modern music. Due to the nature of our program at Village Ranch Alternative Program, our students do not have access to the internet. With this generous donation of 2 iPads by LOFT in New York, students are now able to safely use the Garage Band App to create, record and share their music.\r\nGarage Band allows students to mix, create and share their music. Using recording equipment, students are able to add vocals or music captured from our other instruments. This allows the students to not only learn about music, but helps them to creatively write lyrics and help them understand poetic styles. The combination of music and lyrics helps them to express themselves in ways they would not have a chance to otherwise.","fullyFundedDate":1752586530787,"projectUrl":"project/give-access-to-at-risk-youth-to-begin-th/9435234/","projectTitle":"Give Access to At-risk Youth to Begin Their Musical Career","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Heizelman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10064690"},{"teacherId":10064690,"projectId":9435199,"letterContent":"There was a buzz in the air on this particular morning. Word was spreading that the guitars had arrived. As soon as the students entered the school building, they made a bee line for my room. They crowded around as I held out the Fender Acoustic Guitar that was donated by LOFT from New York. Oohs and awes erupted. One of our students sat down with it and started to play a melody he had learned earlier. \r\nThis generous donation allows our students to learn a new hobby, focus on a positive coping skill, and feel proud of themselves as they get to 'show off' what songs they have learned. It has allowed our Music Appreciation elective class to hold group lessons from one of our staff who plays guitar. The students are learning how to read music, play chords, and how to tune and maintain the guitars.\r\nA supervisor commented that it was amazing to hear the sound of music coming out of classrooms as students practice their guitar skills during choice time (down time.) She stated that it's great to see music back in school. \r\nBecause of this generous donation, along with our other donations of a violin, music stand, and two iPads, our small program is able to connect kids to learning, making music, and sharing their skills while they attend our program. Students are talking about getting their own instruments and continuing to learn once they leave our program. These instruments have inspired our youth to pursue a lifelong hobby, one that wouldn't have been possible without your generous donation.","fullyFundedDate":1752586467208,"projectUrl":"project/help-at-risk-students-learn-a-lifelong-s/9435199/","projectTitle":"Help At-risk Students Learn a Lifelong Skill!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Heizelman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10064690"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_121851","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":95,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":53.3,"schoolId":121851,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Meeker and Wright Special Education Cooperative on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Meeker and Wright Special Education Cooperative","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/-county-run-/meeker-and-wright-special-education-cooperative/121851"}
