When students walked in, it was as if they had woken up on Christmas morning and found all their presents under the tree. Their excitement was immediate and contagious. They recognized many of the games right away and eagerly shared stories about family game nights and favorite games they play at home. They could hardly believe these were for school, and for the first time ever, students were actually counting down the minutes until indoor recess—something that truly never happens.\r\n\r\nThese resources are now used daily during indoor recess, and they have completely transformed that time. Instead of defaulting to Chromebooks, students are choosing to sit together, play games, build, problem-solve, and talk. I've seen students collaborate with classmates they don't usually gravitate toward, practice turn-taking and communication, and work through challenges together in a natural, meaningful way. Indoor recess has shifted from a chaotic time into one filled with purposeful play, critical thinking, and relationship building.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we're channeling this excitement into hands-on learning across the day. Our next goal is to gather additional hands-on science materials, as many of our consumable supplies have already been used up. Students are eager to continue learning through exploration and collaboration, and these next resources will allow them to experiment, observe, and discover in ways that deepen their understanding of science.
