The items we received are all geared toward social/emotional learning, which is directly related to mental health and well being. My kindergarten students are at an early stage of learning when it comes to school. They learn so many things in kindergarten! In addition to the many academic requirements of Michigan kindergarten students, they're really learning how to do school. This is a big change for many students who have spent their earliest years at home with their parents. This can be stressful on them!\r\n The stress of school can manifest in many ways but in kindergarten, we typically see behavioral changes. Our littlest learners don't always have the words to describe their big feelings and emotions. The donations that you have helped to fund have given these words to my students! The book series that you helped to purchase for my students not only describes the feelings associated with each emotion, but it normalizes having these emotions and offers suggestions as to coping with them. My students are being empowered with the knowledge of how to solve conflict with their classmates. They're learning the words that they need to voice their feelings and emotions and stop conflict in its tracks by speaking up. \r\n As a part of the donation that you helped to fund for my students, they also each received a fidget popper. They keep it in their pencil boxes and use it at their seats as needed during instruction to help them to focus on lessons. Sitting for long periods of time is really hard for little ones and they need some movement to help them focus. These fidgets give them that movement by allowing them to use their hands for something appropriate while listening, instead of using their hands for inappropriate things like hitting each other across the table. \r\n I can't thank you enough for helping to empower my students with these tools! They've really enjoyed their new found ability to solve their own problems and find solutions on their own without needing my help. Your generous donation will be able to be used for many future classes as well and will ensure that my students have the knowledge and ability to help themselves, and each other, when needed.","fullyFundedDate":1739374000330,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-cope/9102757/","projectTitle":"Help Us Cope","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kochanoski","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1555144_orig.jpg?crop=1335,1335,x980,y741&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692029646090","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1555144"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_73417","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":353,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.6,"schoolId":73417,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Gordon Grogan Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Gordon Grogan Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/southgate-community-school-district/gordon-grogan-elementary-school/73417"}
