When gathered around the traffic light, the children eagerly watch for the colors to change, immediately signing \"STOP\" for red and \"GO\" for green while practicing their tracking and turn-taking skills. Over at the basketball hoop, the game becomes a lively language-building hub where they naturally learn and practice action signs like \"THROW,\" \"BALL,\" \"MY TURN,\" and \"MORE.\" Meanwhile, the magnifying glasses and binoculars act as visual bridges to the natural world. When a student spots a bug or a bird, it sparks instant, meaningful communication as they point and excitedly sign the names of the creatures they discover. Every student has specific needs, every student is in a different grade, age, and background. Every student has a different language level and academic goals and every student does better with visuals in their assignments. In our classroom we use our whiteboard space as our \"word wall\" with all of our spelling and sight words the students are working on. Each student has their own cubby box, with their own special list of spelling words, math cards, vocabulary books, and IEP goal sheet that we printed on card stock and laminated. We have made labels for everything in our classroom that has the ASL sign and spelling in English so when we are going about our day, we can show our students the ASL sign and then point to use a reference and try to have them copy us and our older students are exposed to the English print and spelling. We also make labels with the ASL signs that we send home to families so they can label their homes and learn ASL with their child.
