Our students are learning ways to deal with social/emotional situations, and ways to express themselves through music. \r\n\r\nHaving an object, a musical scarf, that is accessible to them throughout the entire day means the world to them because they know at any point in time during the day they are free to turn in some music, get a scarf and dance their way through their feelings. \r\n\r\nThe ice maker is also helping children keep fresh, cold water available throughout the day a well. They were overjoyed to be able to have an area that they can use at any point in time during the day when they need it.\r\nThe children go in that room frequently when they are overstimulated or just need a break from the traditional classroom setting. We have many children we service with special needs and those children frequent that room more than others because it is developmentally appropriate for their needs and also a calming area that helps them self regulate. Many of our children can only be in the traditional classroom for a short amount of time before challenges arise and they become disruptive to others. So having these calming mechanisms and an area where they can jump, run, use weighted objects or look at a pretend fish aquarium is beyond satisfying as a teacher to see them have something that fits their needs. \r\nWe cannot thank you enough because the sensory room materials have truly made a wonderful and positive impact on the students we work with. We plan to continue to grow the room and possibly start another room. They were overjoyed to be able to have a stuffed animal that they can use, hold or cuddle at any point in time during the day when they need it. They've even had dance parties with their cuddle buddies. \r\nThe children got to pick the animal they wanted and even named them. Some of them use them during their free play time, dressing them up and feeding them. To see the children keep the animals in their cubbies and when they are having an emotional moment or just need something to hold and go get their cuddle buddy is such a wonderful sight to see. \r\nThe children also sleep with them daily when they take their rest time. Most off our children have trouble sleeping because of trauma they have endured at home during that time. But at school, they grab those cuddle buddies and sleep with them, getting the most restful sleep they can. Even if they choose not to take a nap, they still play with them until rest time is over. \r\nWe cannot thank you enough because the cuddle buddies have truly made a wonderful and positive impact on the students we work with.
