My class was able to make projects within our classroom to show their learning through daily activities. They enjoyed making holiday-themed artwork the most. \r\n\r\nThey were also able to make clips to hang their work in and outside of the classroom, which was one of my students' favorite things to do. They enjoyed painting them, hanging them up, and putting their hard work and achievements on display for everyone to see within our classroom and in the hallway. The students excitement level went through the roof after I introduced the kits to them. Many of my students aren't familiar with robotics and the terms associated with programming robots. They will now be able to learn about robots and how the are able to move. Also, the other activity kit I was able to purchase will give upper elementary students access to STEM-driven models which will enable them to understand the physics behind how machines work. \r\n\r\nThe kindergarten, first, and second grade classes showed great enthusiasm from the first moment I opened the Kids First Coding and Robotics kit. The kit is set up in six different story lines each with a series of model-building and coding lessons, like a mouse moving through a maze to find cheese or a soccer player moving a ball into a goal. Student will have plenty of chances to learn since the kits has 30 lessons that are aligned with standards for computer science education. Some of my students, especially the kindergarteners, really enjoyed getting a chance to meet Sammy. Sammy is a cute little peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which is actually the robot that teaches coding principles and skills to the students. Students will program Sammy to move by laying down a sequence of physical code cards. This will help to engage my K-2 classes to experience programming at these lower grades and give them a foundation of understanding. This kit is very interactive allowing the students hands-on, minds-on learning that will build their engineering and problem-solving skills as connections are being made.\r\n\r\nI introduced the 3-5 grade students to the Klutz Lego Gear Bots Science/STEM Activity Kits using centers. I let the classes explore these kits before getting into the physics of these STEM-driven models. Many students in each class did an outstanding job looking at the instructions to help them figure out how to put together the models. These kits will get students use their problem-solving and deductive reasoning thinking to understand each model.
