Having access to engaging, high-interest novels throughout the year builds excitement, strengthens reading stamina, and increases student ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThis book in particular is known for turning reluctant readers into eager ones. Just knowing they'll be reading a modern, fast-paced mystery later in the year encourages students to stay invested in our reading routines and builds anticipation for upcoming units. When the time comes to study the novel, students will already be prepared to practice higher-level skills such as analyzing evidence, questioning sources, making inferences, and tracking multiple perspectives—skills that directly support state standards and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nBy providing this book now, donors make it possible for all student, no matter their background, to experience the joy of reading a story that feels relevant to their own lives. Having class sets of books means that every student can engage with the text directly and truly take ownership of their learning. Instead of sharing or relying on digital excerpts, they'll be able to hold the book in their hands, mark meaningful passages, and revisit key moments throughout the unit.\r\n\r\nAlthough we haven't started reading yet, the excitement is already building. Students are curious about the themes of justice, inequality, and resilience, and many have expressed interest in learning how real stories connect to the issues we see in our world today. Providing every student with a personal copy sets the tone that their voices matter in these conversations.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students access to an important and powerful story, and I know it will spark thoughtful discussion, critical thinking, and deeper empathy as we begin our work together.","fullyFundedDate":1749751237355,"projectUrl":"project/justice-mercy-exploring-compassion-in/9403510/","projectTitle":"Justice & Mercy: Exploring Compassion in the American Legal System","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jewell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6455470"},{"teacherId":9162413,"projectId":9041218,"letterContent":"On behalf of our entire school community, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous support of our PBIS program. The microwave has allowed students to heat up their snacks and cook in the classroom! One memorable moment was when a student excitedly told me, \"Now we can cook in our room!\" Flexible seating has given students more choice in their learning environment. I've noticed that students are more engaged and comfortable, especially during independent reading and group work.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate! When they saw the microwave, many students cheered and started talking about how they could finally bring cool snacks from home. As for the flexible seating, they were eager to test out different options. Some students ran straight for the new chairs. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they explored their new learning space.\r\n\r\nNow that students have comfortable seating options, we're diving into more collaborative projects. The flexible seating has allowed them to work in small groups more effectively, moving around the room to brainstorm and discuss. The microwave has also helped build a sense of community, as students often chat and share stories while heating up their snalcs.
