With the resources you provided, students researched local history, conducted interviews, and created a professional museum exhibit that was open to the public for an entire month in November.\r\n\r\nStudents used these materials to write, revise, and curate exhibit pieces centered on stories of courage, identity, and resilience. Knowing their work would be seen by real visitors pushed them to take the process seriously, carefully choosing words, refining layouts, and collaborating in ways that felt purposeful rather than academic. When the exhibit opened, students felt an overwhelming sense of pride seeing their work displayed in a professional museum space.\r\n\r\nOne student reflected on the experience by saying:\r\n\"I've always been a minority, but I never realized representation affects me quite as much as it does. There is such a good feeling that comes from seeing those like me, hearing of their struggles and fears, and seeing them push on because of that. I learned just how different I am because of reasons out of my control, but learned that things will still be able to turn out so long as I try hard at it.\"\r\n\r\nNow that the exhibit has concluded, students are reflecting on the impact of sharing meaningful stories with their community and recognizing the power of representation and storytelling. This project helped them see themselves not just as students, but as voices that matter.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make this unforgettable experience possible. Your support truly made a lasting difference.","fullyFundedDate":1759769283772,"projectUrl":"project/courage-comes-in-many-forms-storytellin/9786388/","projectTitle":"Courage Comes in Many Forms: Storytelling Through Art & Community","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McCool","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3598158_orig.jpg?crop=3144,3144,x0,y146&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759775231049","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3598158"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_63885","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":567,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":22,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":60,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":72.4,"schoolId":63885,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Black River Public School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Black River Public School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/michigan-department-of-education/black-river-public-school/63885"}
