With access to reliable calculators, students are better equipped to explore complex mathematical concepts such as quadratic equations, logarithms, and matrices with greater efficiency and confidence. For students from under-resourced backgrounds, having access to donated calculators helps level the academic playing field, ensuring all learners can participate fully in classroom activities and assessments. The new ceiling lights you provided have truly transformed our learning environment, and the book lights have sparked a renewed love of reading.\r\n\r\nThe difference the new ceiling lights have made is immeasurable. Before, my classroom felt dim and somewhat oppressive. Now, the space is bright, airy, and inviting. We've noticed a significant improvement in student focus and overall mood. The relaxed environment has noticeably lifted spirits, especially during those long winter days. I truly believe this has directly contributed to a more positive and supportive learning atmosphere, which is crucial for student mental health. Thank you for investing in their well-being.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the book lights have been a resounding success! They've transformed reading into a fun and engaging activity. I've used them as a reading incentive, and the students have absolutely loved it. Seeing them tucked away, illuminated by their personal book lights, has been heartwarming. It's encouraged them to explore new books and rediscover the joy of reading, even outside of assigned coursework. This simple gift has created a tangible excitement around literacy.\r\n\r\nYour contributions have gone beyond just providing physical items; you've invested in the mental and intellectual well-being of our students. Your donations made it possible for us to host a LEGO Day in our classroom—an opportunity for students to take a creative and relaxing break from their studies.\r\n\r\nDuring this special day, students built LEGO sets inspired by art history, architecture, and comics—perfect for our art-focused classroom. In addition to fostering creativity, this hands-on experience provided a much-needed mental reset, helping students recharge in a fun and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nBut the impact of your generosity didn't stop there. As part of LEGO's official \"Build to Give\" campaign, each student built a LEGO heart, and together, we created hundreds of hearts. I use the speaker in my physical education classes as well as my classrooms. \r\nIn my classrooms, I have used the speaker for calming and uniting my students. A few days a week we start with a Mindful Minute were the class can just close their eyes and regroup their thoughts. I will play calming music or sounds just for a minute for them, and they really seem to like it. Some even ask if we are \"breathing\" today. It warms my heart.\r\nIn PE, I use the speaker to play music to have as back ground or during warm ups. I see some of my students dancing a bit, and I love it. I have also started Yoga with my classes. I tell them they don't have to be perfect or even good, just in the moment. I see the calming when we do start Yoga. The request for resources such as research-backed books and charts that help navigate through paperwork are often denied. Likewise, public schools do not have access to databases that allow us to search for scientific, peer-reviewed journals. \r\n\r\nThe purchase of the resources has tremendously helped my students. Even though I have been an educator for 25 years and have my Ph.D., the behavioral needs/challenges of students post-Covid are unlike anything I have previously experienced in my career. My old tried-and-true tricks have not always been successful as today's students present with more sophisticated mental-health related behaviors. As a result, it has become more difficult to write functional behavior assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP) for these challenging behaviors.\r\n\r\nThe DSM-5-TR, the charts on on FBAs and BIPS, and the book on FBAs have allowed me access to new research and information, resulting in writing these documents that better serve my students' needs, helping reduce their behavior and increase their adaptive functioning in school. As an educator is imperative to adapt and grow, and these resources have enabled me to do so. I will forever be grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1733181044696,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-and-behavior-supports/8925140/","projectTitle":"Mental Health and Behavior Supports","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Walker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1490102_orig.jpg?crop=182,182,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731504915596","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1490102"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_71002","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1319,"numTeachers":61,"percentFrplEligible":47,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":72,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.7,"schoolId":71002,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lakeview High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lakeview High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/lakeview-public-school-district/lakeview-high-school/71002"}
