The snacks have not only provided nourishment but also created a sense of community during our breaks - the students LOVE the food. As you can see from the picture, the rug has become a favorite spot for students to gather, work, and relax. Our students in the mornings are using the art supplies to paint on canvas anything from the landscapes to their own artwork that reflects how they feel. It sets the tone for their day and they appreciate this opportunity very much. They also used some of the materials to decorate Christmas ornaments and vases to take home for holidays. Since most of my students come from low income households, this was a wonderful way for them to make holiday presents that could be in many cases impossible for them to afford (see pictures).
