Sula opened up conversations about the nature of good and evil, the complexities of friendship, and the importance of community. Students were challenged to think deeply about morality, not as a simple black-and-white concept, but as a nuanced spectrum shaped by context, choices, and circumstances.\r\n\r\nToni Morrison's language and storytelling pushed students to grow as readers and thinkers. For many, Sula was their first time reading a work by a Black woman author. The discussions that unfolded about who gets to define \"good,\" how personal freedom intersects with responsibility, and how communities support each other were some of the most powerful and meaningful of our year.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just buy books. It gave students a chance to grapple with big ideas, to see themselves in literature, and to grow in empathy and understanding. It allowed them to read, annotate, and reread an experience that only happens when students have books they can hold in their hands.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of literature to transform young minds. Your generosity made an impact that will continue long after the final page was turned.","fullyFundedDate":1738784926331,"projectUrl":"project/the-beauty-of-toni-morrison-sula/9065978/","projectTitle":"The Beauty of Toni Morrison: Sula","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Roulo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6912385"},{"teacherId":9373119,"projectId":8885084,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generous contributions to Brewing Creativity: Cozy Critiques with Tea and Hot Chocolate. Thanks to you, my students were able to enjoy a warm cup of tea and hot chocolate during our latest critique this past rainy Tuesday. As they presented their paper Mache sculptures—each inspired by their favorite children's book—the cozy atmosphere helped them feel more comfortable and confident sharing their work. Transforming our classroom by arranging the seats in a stadium-style layout made the critique feel special, fostering a safe and encouraging space where students could openly discuss their artistic choices and receive positive feedback.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the tea and hot chocolate setup, their excitement was palpable. Many of them thanked me, saying how much they loved having something warm to drink while presenting. Several even mentioned that this was their favorite part of art class! It was heartwarming to see them fully engaged, not just in their artwork but in the shared experience of critique as a supportive and meaningful conversation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're preparing to showcase their sculptures in a mini art show in our school's media center. Students from different classes will have the opportunity to write notes about their favorite pieces and vote for the artworks that will move on to a district-wide exhibition at our local public library. I plan to set up the tea and hot chocolate station for this event as well, ensuring that our students can continue to experience the warmth—both literal and figurative—that your support has made possible.
