Floods affect climate change primarily through causing more moisture in the atmosphere (leading to more intense rainfall), and worsening coastal flooding due to sea-level rise. This creates a feedback loop where climate change leads to more extreme floods, and these floods can further impact the environment and human infrastructure. The students learned that the floods were due to human impact of debris (trash). Once the school placed trash can with bags and replaced the trash bags weekly, there was a decrease in flood.","fullyFundedDate":1703782793988,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-the-school-area-with-drones/8005483/","projectTitle":"Exploring the School Area With Drones","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Cowan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8014978"},{"teacherId":8014978,"projectId":5769807,"letterContent":"Our FDA students used the mini iPad and presentation remote control for a final presentation. If you get an opportunity, visit the school's Linked In account to see our students in action! A few of our students were able to represent the school on numerous occasions speaking in front of a crowd. Thanks to your support. \r\n\r\nOur students use a presenter remote to advance slides with a clicker, use a laser pointer, and sometimes control other functions like volume or screen blanking. The remote typically connects via a USB dongle or Bluetooth and is primarily used to move through slides, with the \"next\" button advancing and the \"back\" button going to the previous slide. Some modern remotes also function as a virtual mouse, allowing the user to point and click on screen elements, and can be customized to perform other actions.","fullyFundedDate":1630348320812,"projectUrl":"project/modeling-a-professional-speaker/5769807/","projectTitle":"Modeling a Professional Speaker","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Cowan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8014978"},{"teacherId":6162411,"projectId":9369546,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation to purchase the latest technology in Apple products! Due to your donation, we have received sticks and mallets for battery percussion already housed in our school building, and a brand new set of quint toms, which quickly became the most popular instrument amongst my drumline students. So far, we have used the new equipment at a few in-school performances including our inaugural Black History Month program in February. Many students who are not enrolled in the band program and attended the program are now excited to sign up in the new academic year next fall.\r\n\r\nWhen the items arrived at the school building, I cruised down the hallway with pride as I pulled a dolly cart carrying the quint toms in a large box. Students and staff alike gleamed with enthusiasm when they finally saw what was contained inside the cardboard and protective Styrofoam. My band students could not help but to stare, with jaws dropped, as I tuned each drum, preparing it for every percussionist to have the opportunity to try it out. Since adding the quints to our drumline family, students have enjoyed learning new cadences and creating new parts to cadences they have performed before.\r\n\r\nWe anticipate a strong continuation of a drumline that has persevered through a lack of proper equipment, and we remain grateful for the donations as we prepare to compete in local drumline competitions and potentially tour middle schools in the area to recruit more musicians to join us. The \"Fred D. Drummer Boys\" will reach new heights through the art of superior musicianship.","fullyFundedDate":1735623268524,"projectUrl":"project/rebirth-of-a-drumline/9009557/","projectTitle":"Rebirth of a Drumline","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Merriweather","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6162411_orig.jpg?crop=2223,2223,x0,y155&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669138672798","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6162411"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_54808","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":68,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":97,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"3.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":39.7,"schoolId":54808,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Douglass Academy - Young Men on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Douglass Academy - Young Men","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/detroit-public-schools-community-district/douglass-academy-young-men/54808"}
