Each day, students use the flexible seating, fidgets, plushies, and snacks during individual and small group sessions to help regulate their emotions and feel at ease. One moment that stood out was a student who typically struggles to open up.. After settling into a cozy seat with a soft plush in hand and having a small snack, they were able to share their feelings for the first time without shutting down. These resources are not just items in a room; they are essential tools that help students feel safe enough to engage, express themselves, and begin healing.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were immediately drawn to them with excitement and curiosity. The snacks, in particular, have made a meaningful difference. Many of my students rely on them throughout the day, and having consistent access has helped them stay focused and regulated during sessions. Students smiled, explored, and asked thoughtful questions about how they could use each item. For some, simply having a choice in where to sit, what to hold, or even having a snack available gave them a sense of comfort and stability they don't often experience during the school day. It was powerful to see how quickly the space became \"theirs\".. a place they associate with calm, trust, and support.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources continue to play a key role in helping students build social-emotional skills such as self-regulation, communication, and problem-solving. We are using them during structured activities, like small group discussions and coping skill practice, as well as in those important in-the-moment resets when a student needs extra support. My goal is to continue helping students apply these skills in their classrooms and daily lives. Your support has made a lasting impact, and because of you, my students are better equipped to return to class feeling grounded, nourished, confident, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1767361834469,"projectUrl":"project/nurturing-emotional-wellness-one-student/9961340/","projectTitle":"Nurturing Emotional Wellness One Student at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. H","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10385697_orig.jpg?crop=512,512,x0,y64&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1765854065995","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10385697"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_99352","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":591,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":98,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.4,"schoolId":99352,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Washington - Parks Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Washington - Parks Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/cornerstone-education-group/washington-parks-academy/99352"}
