When the jellyfish were finally introduced, the classroom transformed instantly; there was a collective gasp of awe as students crowded around, mesmerized by the rhythmic pulsing of what one student called \"floating ghosts.\" This project has shifted our classroom energy from standard lessons to active exploration, providing a window into an underwater world that many of these students would never have encountered otherwise.\r\nWe are currently using this living laboratory to dive into biology and the water cycle in a way that a textbook cannot replicate. A particularly impactful moment occurred recently when the students observed the jellyfish \"tacoing\" (folding their bells) due to a change in the water current. Instead of just reading about stress responses, the students stepped up as \"lead researchers\", helping me test the salinity, troubleshooting the equipment, and learning the delicate art of \"burping\" air bubbles to restore the jellies to health. This hands-on responsibility has fostered a sense of empathy and scientific stewardship among the group.\r\nAs we move forward, our next steps involve a detailed study of human impact on the environment. The students are starting \"Citizen Science\" journals to document the correlation between water parameters and the jellies' pulse rates, transforming our daily maintenance into a long-term data collection project to help them understand how even a small change can have big impacts. Your contribution has sparked a level of engagement and curiosity that will stay with these students long after the school year ends, and we are so grateful for your investment in our future scientists.","fullyFundedDate":1764128630188,"projectUrl":"project/jellyfish-tank-to-support-extensions-on/9903547/","projectTitle":"Jellyfish Tank to Support Extensions on Saving the Planet!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Brower","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10353549"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_69605","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":489,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":89,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 7","studentTeacherRatio":"20.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":89.5,"schoolId":69605,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cedar Springs Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cedar Springs Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/cedar-springs-public-school-district/cedar-springs-middle-school/69605"}
