The pencil sharpener has been a game changer in our class. The pencil sharpener we got sharpens the pencils with no hands and makes the perfect point. This limits how often the students need to get up and sharpen their pencils. Also, the pencil dispenser has kept the student supply area cleaner and more organized. \r\n\r\nSecondly, the privacy folders have been a great resource for my students. Not only do we use them while taking tests, but I have had students grab them to focus on their work and block out other distractions. This is a great way to keep students focused on their assignment.\r\n\r\nThank you again for the support, my class is so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1735311922529,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-needs/9002482/","projectTitle":"Classroom Needs!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Criscenti","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9311769"},{"teacherId":9617304,"projectId":8533845,"letterContent":"To say my class is grateful for the Stem center does not do it justice. Each day when a package arrived the students were sent down to pick it up. We waited until all the packages had arrived and then had a unpacking party. We invited the principal and even though I knew what would be in each box each time the students excitement of what was in it was priceless. They were so excited to see the boxes being delivered they said it felt like Christmas. We have have savored each opening of a new center and use Fridays to unpack and explore in detail a new Stem activity. I would like to give you just a snap shot of some of the things we have done.\r\n\r\nStudents love the geared robot that they build from the ground up and only works by remote if they have all the gears in the correct order. We drove our robot to many specials and got a lot of attention from other classrooms. It tied in perfectly because we are also reading the Wild Robot and the class now has their own. Each Monday a new version of the robot is built. We also have been working on force and motion and used several of the kits including marble runs, building a bridge and a exciting kit that has them build a home that can withstand a earthquake. The building bricks lego challenge kits we had a chance to show our 4th grade reading buddies and seeing them work together was priceless. One thing you should know is that brand new kits are rare in our school and we all honestly feel so lucky to have all the things I can see the excitement in the student's faces and they beg for Stem time. One other thing we have been doing is using the large chart paper for working in small groups on story problems. We then display their work and that is just inspiring to see how they solve and having them share, display and explain their thinking. It has made math time a favorite in my room. We have been having a open stem time at the end of the day to give them a small chuck of time to explore each center. It is the one time in our day I have zero behavior management issues because they are so engaged with the centers you provided to us. \r\n\r\nI could go on for a long time about the impact this has made on a small rural school in the country. We come from a Title 1 school were funds are limited. Having new things arrive into our school made such an amazing impact on what I can teach but it did something so much more and I can sum it up with one quote from a student. A student in my class after hearing about the center and seeing the packages arrive said, \" I never knew so many people believed in me, if makes my heart feel weird\". I asked the student if he could describe the weird and they said, \"like I can do anything if they think I can\". The donation you gave was more than money it gave them a big dose of confidence and hope as to what they can accomplish. I am forever grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1727103469525,"projectUrl":"project/future-of-stem-is-in-my-classroom/8533845/","projectTitle":"Future of STEM is in My Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bartlett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9617304"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_72790","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":310,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":64.7,"schoolId":72790,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Byron Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Byron Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/byron-area-school-district/byron-elementary-school/72790"}
