We've measured temperatures with thermometers and tested the pH of solutions in a cabbage juice lab. They feel part of a group rather than an isolated individual in the class. Even my most reluctant learners are more apt to participate when seated at a table with students that make them feel included. The table is one piece of the puzzle to making the learning environment positive for all students. Thank you for your generosity. I appreciate that my students have a greater community that cares about the quality of their education so much that they were willing to seek out teachers in need of funding for school supplies. I worked with another teacher to outfit two hydroponic growing towers. Students were curious about the plants and wondered what vegetables we would grow and if the vegetables are safe for us to eat. Since I worked with another teacher, we set up one hydroponic tower with flowering plants and the other with lettuce and vegetables. Students got to place the seeds into the rock wool and watch as their plants germinated and grow. The hydroponic system makes the room brighter and more cheerful. Students check out the plants on their way in to class. It serves as a point of interest to anyone walking by in the hallway. Students are able to lift the plants out of the system to inspect roots and check for mold. Our high school students looked at the roots under a microscope and saw the plant cells in action. Our hydroponic plants help to create a nicer environment for students to learn. We will study the life cycle of the plants as they flower, and send up shoots over time. Our school is over 100 years old and the furniture has not been updated in decades. I believe all students deserve to learn in a nice environment with comfortable furniture that meets our needs. The new table is sturdy and will last a long time. I teach 8th grade science in a room designed in the 1970s for photography. It's a challenge. My students are fantastic, however, and I love working to make our environment nicer and more engaging. Eighth grades love to work in groups. They don't get to do that often in their other classes so science tends to be their favorite time of the day (aside from lunch or PE). My goal is to replace old furniture a little at a time until the room has all new. I got sample chairs from a local vendor and replaced the ones that were over 20 years old. I paid for this myself. Teachers pay for a lot of things to make our classrooms warm and inviting for students. Thank you for helping make our classroom beautiful.","fullyFundedDate":1755371358649,"projectUrl":"project/activity-table-for-super-science-student/9391158/","projectTitle":"Activity Table for Super Science Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lentz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7605968_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725116799583","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7605968"},{"teacherId":7605968,"projectId":9148475,"letterContent":"I am so thankful that you were able to donate to my classroom. Our school is very old - built in 1922, and our facilities have not been kept up to date. My students love to work in groups so the new activity table provides plenty of space for them to construct STEM projects and work with each other. I've been fortunate to secure sample chairs from a local company so I could remove the chairs that were over 20 years old and made awful clanging sounds on the tile floor. The new table combined with these chairs makes my classroom a cut above the rest of the school. But I was pleasantly surprised that the students were on their best behavior and took care to place the rocks back into their places so they wouldn't get lost or mislabeled.
