They have sparked rich conversations among my students about current events and important debates. Topics such as social media, whether kids should have the right to vote, teaching cursive, and the requirement of music/instruments for all students have led to meaningful discussions. The high-quality texts and pictures have allowed students to explore faraway places while enhancing their comprehension skills. Additionally, the accompanying videos and trivia games have further engaged them in these topics.\r\n Secondly, I want to extend my appreciation for the floor cushions. Throughout the year, my fifth graders have used them during our restorative justice circles, group work like book clubs, and even for state testing days. These cushions help make those experiences much more manageable and comfortable. As kids grow, sitting on the floor becomes less comfortable, so they are regularly utilized by all 19 students.\r\n Additionally, I have been very thankful for the magnetic bookshelves! They have allowed us to display our read-aloud books in an accessible manner, which has helped me keep my desk and classroom organized. The ease of access to these books has encouraged my students to dive into reading.\r\n Furthermore, your donation of magnetic building blocks has been invaluable! The students use them during indoor recess and for designing and testing various structures. They also promote cooperation among peers and provide opportunities for practicing conflict resolution when different design ideas arise.\r\n Lastly, I am grateful for the pencil pouches. Students use them daily to keep their materials organized. Learning about executive functioning strategies has empowered many of my students to build independence in managing their materials, which has a positive effect on their time management as well. Your donation has provided them with sturdy pencil cases that have lasted throughout the school year.\r\n I apologize for the delay in sending this thank-you note. This year has been a unique challenge for me as I navigate the responsibilities of being a mom while working full-time as a teacher. Please know that your generosity has not gone unnoticed, and I truly appreciate your support. Your contributions have helped my class of 19 students build a strong community that has grown together and supported one another.
